What other attraction should we do in DAK besides the big ones(Everest,Safari)?

Hi all! I will be in WDW in 17 days. Going to the parks March 14-18. Wednesday, March 16, we're planning on going to Animal Kingdom in the morning, then head back over to Magic Kingdom for the rest of the day.

We usually do, you know, the big ones... Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari..

We've never done Dinosaur, so I'd like to do that this time! But...

What is another attraction to do besides those? I know people complain about how there is nothing in DAK, but there's more than just those three!! :)

So what is another attraction that a family of 4(two parents and two teens -- all HUGE DISNEY FANS :)) could do before they head back to MK, planning to be out by noon and 1ish...

Thanks!

As far as rides go, you're only left with Dinosaur, Triceratops Spin, and the white water rapids ride. We were sorta disappointed with DAk when we went, as Busch Gardens has spoiled us over the years with their coasters and what not.
DAK is still a young park, and hopefully will evolve over the years to be a larger, more-to-do animal park like Busch eventually.

Funny. I grew up with Busch Gardens, and since DAK opened, it spoiled me with its cleaner, prettier, more immersive, better planned environment and lack of exposed ride elements to the point that I can't enjoy Busch Gardens the way I use to.

Anyway, the jungle treks, Flights of Wonder, Festival of the Lion King.

Everest, Kilimanjaro, Pangani Forest, Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur, Maharajah Jungle Trek would be on my must do list.

After that, I would do Flights of Wonder, Finding Nemo the Musical, Festival of the Lion King, and if you are good with getting soaked - Kali River Rapids.

have fun!

Forgot TTBAB. Definitely worth doing. I'd cut it if I was on some sort of schedule, but then I'd probably be on a schedule that would allow me to properly enjoy Animal Kingdom.

Why not just try to do...everything?

If you're going to be in the parks for five days, why not spend a few extra hours and see everything Animal Kingdom has to offer?

I think it's worth it.

If you're really stuck on only spending three hours in a park, there isn't a whole lot else to suggest beyond the super headliners.

Agree with the wolf.

Make sure to see the Festival of the Lion King.

After Epcot, this is my favorite park to just wander in, taking in its atmosphere and ambiance. Spend all day there.

I mean, I think we could spend more time there. Animal Kingdom is a beautiful park with more to offer than others express, but I'm just asking for something new to do that I've never done. Thank you all! :)

You're going to Disney for 17 days and you're only going to the parks for five of them, but all right in a row? And Animal Kingdom for only three hours?

I don't get it.

I agree with all of the suggestions and especially with Wolf who suggested to make a full day of it. It's definitely a "full day" park for me, as I love animals and enjoy the self-guided, well-themed animal trails like Maharajah Jungle Trek, Pangani Forest, Discovery Island Trails, Oasis Trails, and the train ride to Rafiki's Planet Watch and Affection Section where you can pet animals. I can easily spend at least a half-hour on EACH different trail.

It's Tough To Be A Bug is awesome IMO and gives Mickey's Philharmagic a good run for its money for my favorite 3-D park attraction of all time.

Flights Of Wonder is a fantastic bird show with some very talented birds (including Groucho, who can sing 7 different songs! He isn't in every show, lots of the birds rotate shows).

The Nemo and Lion King shows are top-notch as well, and the Dinosaur ride is also very enjoyable.

IMO, AK is a FANTASTIC park, much better than many give it credit for, but again I'm a nature/animal lover, and can easily spend a full day just looking at animals even in a "regular zoo".

Flights of Wonder is a wonderful show that I wouldn't have thought to see, but it was fantastic.

Kali is a great ride if you are up for getting wet. I've noticed it has shorter lines in the morning before it gets to prime hot weather. Once it gets super hot out? Might want to fastpass it.

Dinosaur is cheesy fun. I really enjoy Primeval Whirl despite most peoples hatred of Dino-Rama.

The paths are a blast and very educational, plus the scenery can't be beat.

Festival of the Lion King is a great show! And, you say you haven't done Dinosaur yet; this is a must-ride, in our family's opinion. Very fun, scary ride. I love the Asia part of AK the best, the themeing and the rides.

AK is my favorite park. Just love the atmosphere, and has some of the rides I like best (EE, Dinosaur).

Definitely spend some time on the walking trails (Pangani and Maharaja). They're really some of the gems of the park.
It was a long, long time before I did those treks. My thinking was I've been to zoos, why should I waste time looking at animals in cages?

Then I finally did them and realized why I should have done them. Now they're the first thing I do in the parks. I wish other zoos were the immersive with enclosures that beautiful.

I love doing everything there is to do in Asia.

Kali River Rapids has one of the best queues of all the parks. Even if you don't ride the ride, walk through that queue!

Maharajah Jungle Trek is awesome. And there is a story there. Ask one of the cast members to tell you about the Maharajahs and their history. There is so much detail there. Make sure you stop at the prayer tree and offer a prayer. If one of the bells rings, it is being answered. What look like bird houses in the aviary are actually spirit houses for spirits to protect the property. I just love this trek and never miss it.

Flights of Wonder is enjoyable and you wouldn't know unless you try it. The show I saw was interrupted and ultimately cancelled when an owl flew off into the trees. Up until that point it was great! It was also interesting to know that there are no nets to keep the birds there. If they want to leave, they leave!

Lion King is a great show and worth seeing. Adults and kids will love it alike.

Many people don't even know that there are trails around the Tree of Life. You can get up close to the tree to observe the animal carvings. There are also little areas with animals along the trail.

Rafikis Planet Watch is something I also really like. I avoided it in the past because a cast member said it was for little kids when I asked what it was about. There is a petting zoo which is fun for everyone. There is also plenty of educational entertainment inside of the building. I recommend it.

These are just a few things I would do, if you want more there is plenty I could suggest.

This is the hiddenest and gemiest of the hidden gems in that park.

Exploring DAK is so rewarding. The spirit they put in to its design reminds me of the spirit Shigeru Miyamoto talks of when he was first designing the Legend of Zelda series and vice versa.

EXCELLENT post, Wdwprince! I agree with everything you said.

Asia is my favorite section in the park. In addition to all the awesome theming and backstory you mentioned, I LOVE the sitar-heavy music loops!

I'm not always a big fan of getting soaked, and since winter and early spring is the main times I am at WDW, I often skip Kali. But like you said, even when I do, I enjoy walking the queue to soak in the details and backstory, and pretty views and atmosphere.

In addition to the animals, I love the story of the Maharajah Jungle Trek, such as the story of the 4 Maharajahs you mentioned and prayer trees.

Flights of Wonder is enjoyable and you wouldn't know unless you try it. The show I saw was interrupted and ultimately cancelled when an owl flew off into the trees. Up until that point it was great! Wow, I've never experienced that kind of interuption there! Usually the shows I see are merely interupted by a tour guide who is carrying a red flag on a stick and has FOB ("Fear Of Birds") and has Fastpasses for a movie called "Marsupial Madness: My Mom's Pouch is My Couch" or "A Sloth Named Speedy: He's A Coffee Drinker"! ;) :)

Many people don't even know that there are trails around the Tree of Life. You can get up close to the tree to observe the animal carvings. There are also little areas with animals along the trail.

One of my favorite areas of the park, especially the part that goes right up along the front of the tree that so many people miss, apparently in the quest to get to the next big "E-ticket". This area has AMAZING views of the animals carved on the tree, and after numerous visits, I still find animals I've never noticed before every time! It's also a great place to see the Kangaroos near sunset as they gather by their backstage gate in anticipation of returning to their evening quarters.

(For those who don't know, this trail can be accessed by a path right next to the It's Tough To Be a Bug queue entrance, and the other end of this trail is on the Pizzafari side of the island, just past the otters when heading to Africa)

Rafikis Planet Watch is something I also really like. I avoided it in the past because a cast member said it was for little kids when I asked what it was about. There is a petting zoo which is fun for everyone. There is also plenty of educational entertainment inside of the building. I recommend it.

Again, I completely agree! As an animal fan there is something so rewarding about being able to actually meet and pet animals, and I heartily disagree with those who consider this a "kiddie" activity! I love all the animals there - the goats, the sheep, the Sicilian miniature donkeys, the pigs, and the llamas. But my favorite is the Dexter Cow, named Miss Kitty!

Speaking of favorite atmospheres in the park, I really like the seating area of Flame Tree Barbecue, especially the area overlooking the water and Everest after sunset. Just taking a few minutes to enjoy this view with the Discovery Island music loop playing in the background is, for me, one of the sublime pleasures of Animal Kingdom.

Pick a trek to do. They're great and a nice... calm way to start the day before you hit MK.

I know people say the park doesn't take a full day, but I take forever in those treks. And ride the safari several times during the day. That plus shows, I barely fit everything in by closing (skipped Dinorama every single time)
