What one thing would you like to see brought back to WDW?

Surely this has been discussed, but I couldn't find it, so I thought I'd start the thread. If another one exists, feel free to link me and I'll go ahead and bump that one.

Year after year, something disappears from Disney World only to be remembered in the stories that are passed down. It always pains me so much when they get rid of something from Disney World to make room for something new, but such is the nature of big business. They're here to make money, not to preserve nostalgia.

That being said... I have a weird one that I rarely ever hear mentioned.

I remember the year I went to MGM Studios (I think it was still MGM at the time), and I went to the Monster Sound Show only to find out that *GASP*... it had been replaced!

This was one of those shows that I used to go to like 4 times a day and just ball over laughing by the end. So there's mine. I wish WDW would bring back the Monster Sound Show to Hollywood Studios.

What's yours??

One thing? Horizons probably.

Its not so much that I don't like new things, that's progress and how it should be, I do think that if change is necessary, change should be for the better. And that all reasonable effort should be spent on improving existing attractions, than simply remove and replace. Unfortunately this is often the easy way out.

Using this particular instance...I think the preferred solution would be to have the M:S ride system supplement the existing omnimover attraction. Instead everyone going to Mars (is it a simulation or not, still haven't figured that out ) when you chose your ending to Horizons, you then used the M:S system to ride it. You could have one main spinner, and each "arm" could be a different destination. Space, desert, submarines, or maglev. Much more preferable to what we ended up with I think, and quite simple. A perfect example of how this can work is the Land + Soarin idea.

I think that in any case we should be working to make things better or bigger, and if we can't think of a good way to do that for something, or if we have to sacrifice something for another, we need to think harder.

Pretty darn cool idea, actually.

Oh, and another trend I don't particularly like but I don't see changing anytime soon because it's a good profit model for Disney...

I used to like how the most part, the Disney movie character-driven rides were confined to Fantasyland, and only Fantasyland. Not everything used to be so branded with Disney the way it is now. In that regard, it had much more of a World's Fair flavor than a purely Disney flavor.

Now, when you look at Tomorrowland, you have Lilo and Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, etc. I liked when Tomorrowland was pure and just a display of a futuristic vision... not another Fantasyland with a futuristic undertone.

So my other thing I'd want to bring back is the classic World's Fair feel of Disney World. I dare Disney to build a new ride in Magic Kingdom that does not star a Disney movie character.

20K Leagues Under the Sea is a perfect example, actually, about how the Disney character branding is taking over. Rides like that have no place anymore in WDW, and I'm convinced all the remaining ones (even the classics) will slowly be weeded out.

I have probably spent too much time trying to re-think these pavilions :p probably a separate thread in and of itself.

I don't mind movie character themed attractions, in the proper place. Fantasy Land is somewhere I am particularly lenient with, considering it's history.

As far as the "World's Fair" feel goes, I always Epcot in its original state was a permanent Worlds Fair. The concept is somewhat ancient though, not really something in the social conscious, and most people around today don't know what one is, what the last one was, or when the next one is. I don't know if Epcot will ever recover that feel without the Worlds Fair in general coming back in vogue.

Are you referring to DL's Submarine Voyage > Finding Nemo conversion, or 20k? 20k was only around for 25 years, and I felt it should have had a larger impact than it did, as it was truly unique, and very ambitious ride system. Nothing would please me more (except maybe Horizons) than for it to come back in a more reliable and accessible format with electrical submarines, with decent ventilation.

The thing I miss the most would definitely be the Tapestry of Nations parade in Epcot. I loved that parade!! I understand all the logistical problems of traffic flow and wind issues, but that doesn't stop me from hoping someday it will return.

Oh, and of course, Mr. Toad.

3 way tie:

Horizons - if i could only bring back one this would be it!
Mr. Toad - It's still painful for me that this is gone!
20K - I never got experience this but as a kid I never saw a picture of an attraction that captured my imagination more.

Oh yes, definitely. What I meant by the "branding" point I brought up was not that Disney pushed its films into being incorporated into every ride. I actually welcome that. It was more along the lines of them trying to incorporate the "Disney characters" (think, animated ones) into all the rides (probably applies way more to MK than any other park, really). 20K League ultimately getting replaced by Ariel's Adventures is a perfect example.

Buzz Lightyear Spin replacing DreamFlight/TakeFlight is another example.
