OK, so this is going to be a real tough question for everybody. What one, ONE thing about WDW do you miss when your not there? I know, there really can't be just one thing, but if you had to think about it, what would it be? For me, it's the feeling that all of the problems that are back at home don't come with us. No school for my sons, work for me, my wife's a teacher, so you guess what it's like for her. For us it's like we have another life at WDW, and they never cross.:D 29 days and counting till our 3rd trip this year, CAN'T WAIT!!!

The overall atmosphere of Disney World is unlike anything else in the world. Everyone there is having fun, and there is magic in every step.

I agree, having nothing to do but have fun is an incredible feeling. Leaving all of your cares and worries behind you. And knowing that tomorrow, you will do it all over again.

I miss that warm feeling you get in your stomach as you ride the monorail for the first time...

All the music playing in the background. Almost no matter where you go and often very softly there is always some sort of happy tune being pumped out of carefully hidden speakers. It is like living life with a soundtrack.

Now if I was to say one thing about WDW that I miss that is not there anymore (that's what I thought the thread might be about) I would say the smell of the orange groves in the World of Motion. I hear that you get a similar thing on Soarin', but I don't think that will ever replace World of Motion for me.

Just to be exact, the one thing that is there, not used to be , once was, or otherwise. And unfortunatly we never had the chance to enjoy WOM. But I do miss Horizons.

I miss just being there!! Our next trip is looking like April 07. We wanted to go this fall, but decided to wait til the April trip when we head that way with my in-laws. We are taking a trip to the mountains next month since we haven't been there in 3 years.

Oh how I wish I was there now, riding Test Track and strolling down Main Street :( . April can't get here soon enough!!!!

The one thing that I miss the most is the Disney Smell. It's been talked about before on other threads.

For me, it makes the most sense as smell is the sense that is most powerful for memories for people who utilize both sides of the brain equally. For left-brained people, it's sound. For right-brained people, it's visual. For bi-lobal, it's smell.

I took a course in Neuropsychopharmacology and we studied this phenomenon. There is a very small percent of the population that uses both sides of the brain equally, and when we did the tests, it turned out that I do. And while both visual and auditory cues stimulate memories for me, smell does so much more strongly.

I still get memories of Horizons when I smell oranges, and the smell of water in large fountains evokes memories of Small World or POTC. And then there's the Disney smell, that smell common to most indoor attractions. It's a slightly musty smell, caused by the combination of A/C, humidity and a certain mould found in sub-tropics.

I suppose the sense of escape from reallity. Otherwise, it's hard to pick one thing. But Splash Mountain might be the closest tangible.

btw, wasn't the orange smell in Horizons, rather than World of Motion?

The overall atmosphere. I love the feeling that I get on our first day....just an overwhelming good feeling!! (I could use some of that magic right now :()

Interesting post DisneyDragon! I must use both sides equally as well, because it's always the smells that trigger my memory the quickest.

What I miss: leaving reality behind and allowing my kids to just be kids.

No school bus bullies, or overdue homework :animwink:

We miss just spending time together as a family while at WDW. Luckily, we are able to visit 3 or 4 times a year since moving to ATL from Boston and have decided we don't miss any one thing from there except to stroll and enjoy time together surrounded by magic.

But I do sometimes miss the turkey legs. :lookaroun

You are right, it's been so long since both of those rides for me I guess they sort of melded into one.

Oh well my CURRENT one thing that I miss is still the background music.
