What kind of ride is "Stitch's Great Escape?"

It's not actually a ride - it's a show.

You start with a pre-show in the main lobby watching video screens, enter a tiered-walkway room and watch an animatronic and video presentation, and then finally enter 1 of the main show chambers.

Tiers of chairs in rings around a large center "teleportation tube" with the center being the lowest and fewest seats. All the chairs have little "restriants" that come down and keep you seats. It occurs mostly in the dark with loud noises, strobe lights, and in-theater effects.

It may sound fun but sadly Disney really messed this type of show up.
The only good thing about this show are the AA's. The Stitch and DNA cannons are fantastic. But the show leaves you saying "That's it?" The storyline is muddled(very anti-climatic ending),a very horrible smell that doesn't even smell like a chili dog. What's even worse is they tried turning the most terrifying show (but very original)Alien Encounter, into a show for little kids, but keeping all the scary effects(darkness for a long time, tounge effect etc.) The first 1 or 2 months Stitch was open it got more complaints then Alien Encounter had in it's 8 year life. They have made changes to it but it's still not even a decent show yet. If you want to see it use a fastpass. Waiting in line can lead to a bigger letdown.

I agree entirely. I recently visited WDW and couldn't believe how bad Stitch's Great Escape was. I loved AE - it was the right mix and worked much betterthan Stitch.

Unless there is no queue or you can get a fastpass I would avoid this ride -- this coming from someone who actually likes Stitch!

After all the bad reviews, I tried to go on it with an open mind... really I did! My main beef with the attraction was it seemed to be a whole lot of chaos and not much payoff. There's all this stuff going on... crazy sensory overload. Quite confusing. The chilly dog thing isn't as bad as people say, IMO. The stitch AA is amazing. If you're a fan of AAs, it's worth it to see it once and be awed.

One thing aside from personal opinions of the attraction itself that is seldom mentioned....

People with claustrophobia MAY have problems in this attraction.

The seating is very close together, it is dark and "smoky" in the room, and there is am effects collar which goes over your head and onto your shoulders.

I was surprised when one of my guests decided they could not be in the chamber for the show even before they sat down. I had never really thought about it from that persepctive before, but it does bear mentioning when describing the show!

I don't believe it would be too extreme a measure to burn this attraction at the stake, or whatever can be the theme park attraction equivalent.

Make sure you ride with an open mind. Before I went on it, I heard it was horrible, but I gave it a chance and enjoyed it. The Stitch AA is amazing, and there are some pretty funny moments. It isn't the greatest attraction out there, but it is entertaining. I think one of the main reasons people dislike it soo much is because they wait in a long line for a mediocre attraction. I waited 5 minutes and wasn't expecting an amzing attraction, and I came out happy.

it isn't that bad.

sure they should probally elongate the time span, and add a few effects, but all together it wasn't a horrible ride, just one that needs improvment. it really is a good tie in to the move.

maybe i'm a little to leanient because i love stich, but i think, in time, it will grow in to a good ride

Is it like a motion simulator?
It's not a ride, actually it was a GREAT ride before Guests started nagging saying it was too scary for their toddlers...

So it's changed into a tasteless attraction... without a story and end...

Waiting for (again) a new rehab...

Saw it earlier this month for the first time and it wasn't as bad as you read around here.

Which is not to say it was the best thing in Tomorrowland, let alone the Magic Kingdom.

But it was sort of cute.

You will find it compared most unfavorably to Alien Encounter, the attraction it replaced. It does compare unfavorably to that attraction, IF you liked the fact that AE was very different from most Magic Kingdom attractions. The fact that it was different from most attactions is what created a cult following here, I think.

But many people complained that their young children were petrified during the show. (and indeed, it was far, far scarier than the Haunted Mansion). So if went away.

What we have is essentially the same attraction, but with a much more kid-friendly star, Stitch. It still gets complaints that it scares young kids.

But overall, I'd put it ahead of things like the Astro Orbiter and Dumbo the Flying Elephant and the Indy Speedway. But not in the same league with the Magic Kingdom's real star attractions.

I think I might take a crack at a Armchair Imagineered version. I've had one in my mind for a while and having the attraction be a tour of Jumba's lab. Post more later...

I rode it with an open mind. It helps that I find most people on this forum to be rubes and wouldn't trust their opinion any farther than I could throw them...

I kid! I kid because I love! Please don't kick me there! AAAUUUUGGGHHHH!

Anyway, open mind, like I said, and the best thing I can say about it is that it was not fun at all. I was bored from the get-go, I hated the sound effects of kids squealing with glee saying stuff like "This is cool" (from what I understand, that part has been toned down or removed entirely) but it's kind of insulting. Like I said before, if THE RIDE has to tell you that THE RIDE is cool, then the ride is ipso facto uncool.

If there's no line at all, take a chance. But if you have to wait longer then it takes for the next show to start, I would be hard-pressed to say you'd consider that wait to be time well-spent.

Alien Encounter was like this. You enter the Tomorrowland Intergalatic Convention Center, there is this one company from another planet called X-S Tech. They want to show you their products. So the first preshow we see a video of the head person Chairmen Clench and he gives us an overview of what X-S can do for us. The next preshow we see a cute little alien named Skippy in a glass tube, you also see another tube on the other side of the room. In the middle is a robot named S.I.R.(voiced by Tim Curry). He shows of a demostration of a teleporter, and Skippy is the test subject. But when Skippy gets sent to the other tube he looks a bit scorched. Then S.I.R. makes Skippy go bye-bye. We then are moved to the main show where we sit in a circle and have a huge teleporter in the middle and the restriants come down on us. Now Chairmen Clench wants one of us to be teleported, but he then decides to teleport himself down to us. Now one of the assistants tells Clench this is not a good idea. But they teleport him anyway, but he doesn't come to us. They try to find him and they detect something on another planet. Thinking that's Clench they teleport it and it works this time. But one major problem,it's not Clench. It's a 10ft. tall Alien that is very hungry. Before they can get rid of it,it breaks loose and the theater goes black. We then feel hot breath on the back of our necks and other effects. the lights come back on and a person decides to look around up in the rafters. The person has a camera so we can see whats going on. Well we see the aliens face and it breaths something on the camera and it opens it's mouth. We then hear a very nasty sound of bones crunching and it feels like blood is dripping from above. then it goes dark again. Soon the alien gets back in the tube and they blow it up, of course you get hit by some flying alien mess. As you can tell this was not for little kids. But parents ignored the warnings saying not for kids under 10. This may not have been for little kids but this was one of the best things for teens and adults! I'm 15 and I thought it was one of the most original shows Disney had ever created, not to mention my all time favorite show. Stitch is just a half-baked toned down copy that still scares kids.
