What is WRONG with people????

I get annoyed on the Haunted Mansion, all the people that speak recite the speech in the "haunted room." Like many I know it by memory too because I've been there so many times and even have it on my computer. However, please shut up, you are ruining the ride. Recite it in your head like I do. Sometimes I will look at my wife and recite it but it's just my lips moving, no words are actually coming out.

I have to admit that I am guilty of this. But in my defence, the entire stretching room was doing it too, and it was quite late in the evening.

I won't do it in the future though.

Amen to that. I've seen it first hand:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...one-amazing-cruise-on-the-dream.762867/page-2

(You have to scroll down to the 'second weird and scary thing that happened to me' that trip story. After reading some of these posts, I'm wondering if I've almost met someone on these boards that night! :))

Wow. Yeah. That's nuts.

For me, maybe it's about what I have to gain. If you cut in front my kids at the parade and the parade hasn't started, I will say something because I still have potential to enjoy the parade. If you use your flash camera, the damage is done, why bother.

I just thought of a crazy story...A lady crashed into me using her stroller as a tank in the Emporium when she took a sharp turn without looking where she was going (and I was standing right there). There was no child in it, don't worry lol. Anyway, I said to her, something like Watch where you're going. And then another lady who was not related to the stroller-tank-pusher started yelling at me that I should have moved over for the empty stroller.

Aaaand, that's when I left the Emporium. I really think part of it is that the place is too darn crowded.

I can't stand people who take flash pictures in dark rides like POTC and HM. Me and my brother were about to leave WDW and we wanted to ride POTC without anyone being annoying, and we ended up riding it 3 times before no one was taking flash pictures or talking very loudly.....

The more we are willing to voice our opinions outloud, the more likely people are to consider the opinions/thoughts/feelings of others. If you are being rude and know you're going to get away with it, why bother not being rude if you're enjoying yourself. If in the back of your mind you know you're surrounded by people who won't appreciate the way you're acting AND will say/do something about it, you'll probably reconsider thinking only of your own enjoyment and be considerate of the enjoyment of those around you. We are, in essence, creating the world we're all complaining about by not speaking up and calling people out.
For the people that are worried about how someone will respond to confrontation, the odds are that they are going to settle down. Most people that are like that are all show and no go. Lack of action, both from individuals and from companies/officials, is what leads them to be as annoying as they are. As with most big-mouths, the second you confront them they shut right up.
Confrontation is okay as long as you don't allow it to escalate. Sometimes rude people need to be told they are rude.
Really the key is to not fight fire with fire. If you're going to confront someone who is being rude, don't be rude doing it. In fact... be almost overly polite. Typically someone who is being flat out rude without care to what anyone around them experiences as a result will back down if when you do call them out on it, you do it nicely... especially if you're somewhat sugar sweet about it and even more so if they are letting their temper escalate while you call them out. The angrier they get, the sweeter and more polite you get. You'd be amazed the effect this can have.

Again though... if you aren't willing to address it, then well... It's easy to post a rant to Facebook or your blog or a forum and say how incredibly ticked off you are that this that and the other person ruined your experience because they were doing X,Y,Z but if you didn't attempt to let those people know that what they were doing was effecting you, then you must not have cared enough to fix the situation. And I do mean directly... being passive aggressive is just as rude (and a whole other topic I know).

This reminds me of when my wife and I were watching Wishes back in 2009 and a mother let her 3-4 year old daughter stand beside he crying throughout the entire show...the mother just stood there watching the fireworks....absolutely moronic

LOL..this exact thought was discussed when we were there...It is increasingly on our minds every time we go because it is all around us....The discussion we had was either that maybe we should forgo our frequency of going or all together stop, or we need therapy to to work through our emotions about all this rudeness/discourtesy and attitudes of people.
We've already decided to probably never have children due to how our world is today. IT just seems not worth it.

I think it could get to a point where, if the rudeness keeps escalating, WDW will see their business drop off. Obviously, no one is going to stop going there because of one or two incidents, but if you feel that it is increasing, maybe. Well, I know I would.

A good one all can use that goes a long way and leaves the perpertrater baffled as to how to respond is...
Moron displays discourtesy:
Me to wife " Don't worry hunnie, theres a special place for people like that ( or rude people), in the end"
Its me having a chat with my wife and not really confronting them, but they know I am talking about them
and it gets them so mad....
And if they say something to me I reply "I was having a private conversation with my wife, do you mind"
knowing full well i am talking directly about them.

^ Bingo!

In general, to keep things calm - start off with, "With all due respect... You're being a total dbag."

See how much nicer that was? :D

The kindness of CM's toward all guests is too well known, and the inconsiderate take full advantage of this. It has become a joke among many: "You'd better not act up at Disney, or you might get a dirty look." Meaning that the harsh punishment for taking flash pictures inside dark rides, line jumping, or any other kind of rude behavior is the laughable dirty look or glare from other patrons. A.K.A. You can get away with anything!
Luckily some people are learning you have to speak up & take action against the offenders. The dirty look or glare of disapproval isn't getting the job done. CM's may be afraid to take action to ensure all guests can enjoy the experience...but we aren't. Stand up & do something, or sit & allow it to happen.

It is necessarily that the CMs are afraid to take action, or is it that they are told not to by their superiors?

Probably more because of their superiors, and are afraid to lose their job.

A lot could be they are afraid to offend or cause any sort of confrontation. Back in 2008 while watching Voyage Of The Little Mermaid at DHS, some woman was going all paparazzi with her flash camera during the performance. It was insane, and looked like a meteor shower was going off under the sea. Even though the rules of flash pictures had clearly been stated prior to the show's start, the woman continued to go on a flash brigade.
One of the CM's walked over to the side of the theater where this woman was sitting, and stared at her. Yes...stared at her. Never came over to ask her to stop, never said a word...just stared at her. When the show had ended, not one CM came over to say something to this lady. Did it ruin the show for most of us? Yes. So what did she learn? That if you break the rules, you face the wrath of...being stared at. Lesson learned? o_O

That's the reality of society today. CMs can't enforce basic rules of courtesy because anyone they speak to is a potential civil rights lawsuit against the company.

I think they're told not to. I also think they just don't care. They want to get through their shift and go home with as little grief as possible, like most people.

Quick anecdote full of truthiness - Once on PoTC the main in the row in front me loudly bid on the redhead several times. His wife said this, "Does it make you a fool, if you're talking to a dummy?"

Good one.
But, here's a deeper question:
The man may be a fool for talking to the AAs, but is the wife also a fool for talking to her husband?
Not just talking to, but marrying....To be honest I didn't look for rings or nothing, but as a kept man myself, I can recognize a married couple (provided it is at least 3.9 months since their ceremony) a mile away. Her comment did get him to quiet down.
