What is this logo?

Wow, never even noticed they had different colors. Actually, I didn't know there was more than one. I thought there was only one going around in circles all day. (Perhaps it was that way back when there was only the Magic Kingdom?)

Nope, there's always been a "fleet".

I believe there's 11 now, with a 12th being built. There were, I THINK, 12 before the accident, then the two wrecked ones were combined to make one (making 11), and I think they're building the 12th.

I'm not sure how many currently run at the same time on the system right now, but I'm sure someone else could chime in on that. My guess would be a couple on the Express loop, a couple on the resort loop, and maybe a few on the Epcot loop... Which would be 7. Total guess on my part, though. It might even be 3 on every loop on busy days, I don't know how the zones are set up on the loops exactly.

All I know is that the fleet of 12 gets worked to death from what people have said, and it doesn't leave much down time for any train to get the maintenance work it really needs.

And I just realized I'm derailing the thread. Whoops. :lookaroun Back to the topic... They've all got the old logo except for the "new" one.

Really??? When the MK opened there were 10 monorails. When Epcot was opened. 2 more were added. During peak season all 12 can be used.

Seriously. I never noticed. Just thought it was the same one going round and round back in 1978.

When I went again in 1997, I still never realized it.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever been on the Monorail! In 1978, we took the ferry over to MK. In 1997, our tour bus made a stop at each park - I think...

FUN FACT: There were actually only 3 monorails in service due to manufacturing delays when MK opened in 1971. The last of the original 10 Mark IV monorails was not delivered until December 1972. The transportation shortage was partially resolved by re-purposing watercraft built for resort landings (a dedicated TTC/MK ferry was not in the original plans) and running parking trams directly to the Kingdom.

I know this is getting off topic but I love dropping random monorail knowledge.

Huh, I never knew that. I'd heard that there were some early transportation issues, leading to the creation of the ferry boat after the fact, but I wasn't aware it was quite so drastic. I'm assuming they ran 2 on the Express line and 1 on the resort line? Heaven forbid one of them break down.

A bit OT, but I noticed something at the MK:

As you're leaving the parks, there's your bus terminals on your left, a watercraft dock in the center, another dock/Walk Around the World path off-right-center, and the monorail platform to the right. They are no longer using the secondary boat dock, which was used for the Polynesian/Grand Floridian/Magic Kingdom shuttle. Does anyone know why?

I am a Monorail junkie... Any small tidbits of Monorail knowledge are welcome. I am confused at one thing that for whatever reason is not clear to me. EC opened in 1982 at which point they only had 10 Mark IV monorails. They never built 2 additional Mark IV's for Epcot did they? They just waited until the new Mark VI fleet arrived before they actually had 12. Is that correct?

There were 12 monorails by the time Epcot opened. Mark IV Coral and Lime were delivered in 1977.

These final 2 vehicles were sold when the Mark IVs were retired at WDW and went on to serve the Las Vegas Monorail for several years.

I have this charm with the original logo. There is presently one on Ebay for sale. I love the old logo. There seems to be some merchanside appearing in the parks with this original logo.

And most of the rest were scrapped in the same place as the 20k subs, save for one car of Red?

Silver and Red were stored in a warehouse in Kissimmee and are still there (except for the car that was sold) as far as I know. I haven't heard anything about them in a while. The rest were indeed scrapped on property.

Anyone know if Silver and most of Red are still in a warehouse in Kissimmee? They could have brought Silver out while they rebuild Maroon. That would have been a hoot. I remember seeing MK IV and MK VI black next to each other in a picture somewhere.
