What is this, and why haven't they built here yet?

I believe that land is set aside as conservation. Doesn't mean it can't be developed, however. Celebration and a portion of DAK impactedconservation land, and Disney purchased land in Kissimmee, which today is a wildlife management area called the Disney Wilderness Preserve in order to offset this development.

Yes, according to the RCID land use map that area is designated conservation.

Another interesting find on property is the actually towns of Lake Buena Vista & Bay Lake. If you know your Disney history, you know that Walt Disney World is it's own municipality. In fact, Walt Disney World contains both the towns of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista. In order for them to do this, they also have to have residents. Well, here is where they live. Could this be part of the tree farm? If you look at the green area and the area south of it real close in Google Maps, it definitely appears "planted": lines of the same trees, perfect circles of trees, etc. Horticulture is just on the other side of the sewage treatment plant.

Anyone know of someone who lives there? Would they be employees? They don't seem to use sidewalks, though that could be a rural thing...

I was looking at Google Maps and I noticed a plot of land that has been partially cleared for a roadway. What is this? (area in green).

Also, the large surrounding area (red), why are we not building Gate #5 right there!?

Whatisthis-1.jpg

That area is marked for conservation.

Any idea what they are used for? Something important or just a place for CM's to off road?

Most of these roads and trails would be for staff to access different parts of the property. A good amount follow the different canals.

WDW is full of these tracks.

Also, a lot of WDW is unsuitable for large scale building.

As a civil engineer I can tell you that almost all land on WDW is suitable for large scale building. With modern construction methods you can just about build anywhere. Look at what is being done at the new GF DVC. There are filling in part of the lake and still building a large scale building.

Walt was given permission to build his own Nuclear power plant by the Florida Legislature..this must be where the plant was going to be built

Whatever happened to those groovy 70's houses where Saratoga Springs is now? Did they get wrecked? I don't mean the Treehouses, but there were actual homes built in 70's architecture in a development by the golf course.
