I know technology is increasing in availbility and hight, but what happened to the classicness of disney?

I mean...Disney has come up with some terrific ideas, that didn't even bother other rides..like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. They built the Tower of Terror on land that was never really used before...

Now they are building rides IN/ON rides that were classics, I.E. Mr. Toads Wild Ride replaced by the STUPIDIOUS GOD AWFUL!, ride known as "bud lightyear's space ranger's spin", GOOD GRIEF!

We need to LITTERALLY go on strick to bring back the clasics at wWDW and other areas....AND SOON!

there is a very simple reason for why disney removes most rides. Budget. Disney allots a certain percentage of ticket sales to each ride based on how many people ride. If the percentage allotted to the ride is no longer enough to run the ride on a daily basis, it is no longer a good idea to keep the ride open. Look at the rides that replaced Dreamflight and Toad. They are E-Rides, have fastpasses, and often have waits in excess of one hour. You can complain about Toad all you want, but ask any Cast Member and they will tell you that on a BUSY day, Toad may have had a fifteen minute wait, but it was usually walk-on. I noticed this and Cast Members did. That is why it closed. Walt did the exact same thing with Disneyland when he was alive (perfect example...those Flying Saucer things)

I agree completely, but Toad was replaced by the lame Pooh.
The worst is World of Motion being replaced by the imagination-free zone known as Test Track, followed shortly by Horizons being torn down. At least Toad has a version at Disneyland still, the rides at Epcot were completely unique. They should have maintained and updated them instead of trashing all that creative work.

ACK! Unimaginative Test Track? I know no ride that is a as much fun while providing such a great sense of having learned something about the world around us. I couldn't believe the fact that a ride gave me some great thrills, in a cool atmosphere and I learned more than I did on world of motion. Lets face it the way we plant things such as ORANGES is no longer the COOL thing to learn about. This is why Horizon's, where that example came from, is being replaced. Epcot is about learning about the future. It is not suppose to be a history lesson about what we dreamed about in the past.

BTW I love classic rides..... but if every ride was a classic ride the park would look "cheap". Plus the new rides allow us to take extra pride in those that still stand.

LOL...It's not fun seeing WOM being replaced by a 5 second spin. So..you say it is a sense? Sense of GM test drives...OOOOH! I wanna be a test dummy! Great discoveries!!! Let's just throw away Ward Kimball's hilarious 14 minute ride-through of countless scenes and animatronics learning about the FUTURE world and the PAST...??

"I couldn't believe the fact that a ride gave me some great thrills, in a cool atmosphere and I learned more than I did on world of motion."

What did you learn that you didn't from WOM that has some worthy significance??

"Epcot is about learning about the future. It is not suppose to be a history lesson about what we dreamed about in the past."

You need to watch the EPCOT Opening Celebration... ;)

"Am I the only one that thinks change can be a good thing?"

Nope. But sometimes change ISN'T good - and it gets pretty dirty when dealing with the classic attractions...

Case in point...TIKI ROOM!!! Jeez...keep the MOVIES OUT OF IT!!  :hurl: :hammer: :brick:

Buzz Lightyear is Genius!!!

The kids love it and I love it, such a great idea for a ride. You have a ride and you shoot things, it's genius. It's also great because it takes a chunk of people from Space Mountain wait time, which is always a good thing!

.....and as I've said many times, Test Track is a perfect fit for Epcot. Yeah, WoM and Horizons were great, but they're gone and I can't bring them back, let's go Mission: Space!

To me WoM was Spaceship Earth but with transportation instead of communication. So I didn't see the need for it.

Wait a second. Mr. Toad was replaced by Pooh, not Buzz Lightyear. Get it straight or the Evil Emporer Zurg may come after you!

heres my theory: as long as youve been on the ride & had those memories, you shouldnt be upset that it was gone. lets say dream flight was still around today, the same exact way it had been when it first opened... would you still go on it & love it the same as you love it now & miss it now that its gone? i understand that its different with a ride like CoP where i can go on every time im in the park and still be amused. But with replaced rides, you should be happy that u were on the original when it was still around & have those nostalgic memories of when u used to ride em... i hope that makes sense and/or cheer sum people up :)

But sometimes you don't want memories to leave and you want to relive them. And CoP has more memories with People that probably any other attraction in the world. It has been around since 1964. Almost 40 years.

Nor should any of it. Most things have a reason to leave even if we can't understand them. We just can't always come to terms with parting with them.

I understand the economics of keeping low attendance rides open and its just not profitable, which really sucks because WOM was (and IS, yes folks it still IS my fave disney attraction, I have the video and all the mp3s and I relish in the past quite often)
But there are some things that just shouldn't be F-ed with, Toad was one, the WEDway people move is another, apart from the De-Walt-ing (my own creation, taking Walt and his genius out of the park and replacing it with Eisners Chicago School Economics) the new people mover just doesn't have the same memorizability of the old wedway. Dreamflight was great, you could always walk on and sit down in the cool, it wasn't a great ride but I think it was pretty decent (I'm sooooooooo glad they kept those projection screens that play the immersion movies)

Why can't old attractions be slightly revamped, remarketed and kept open if only on a scaled back basis (ie COP) so people can share memories with their children and friends, I would love to take my kids on WOM, but I will never be able to do that. When new E tickets are needed just build them somewhere else, theres plenty of space at EPCOT MGM and Animal Kingdom, MK has some openings also (sky ride stations, 20k leagues,

wow long post, thanks for listening

Man...another Eisner hater.....

Fact is: If not for Eisner, WDW would not be as popular as it is today...sure he's a damn fool sometimes and makes decisions even my pet fish would think twice about, but he's marketed this company back to the top. Do you think Epcot's attendance would be as high as it is right now if not for the new Millenium shows that are basically still there? And if Horizons, UoE, WoM, and JII were still in their original states? I think not...sure it would be a good "blast fromt he past" thing, but there would never be anything exciting or new about it....nothing to draw you back.....Sort of like the old amusment park that hasn't been changed in the last 20 years...same old rides...used to be a blast, but now it's the same old stuff........

I can't beleive what some people have said about the test track ! its such a cool ride! what is wrong with a change? I mean if every thing stayed the same it would get boring and predictable! Mr toad was a boring ride! winnie the pooh is not Lame! Buz light years space ranger spin is a cool ride!

Going back to what was said at the start about ToT being built on 'new' land, instead of replacing an old attraction. This could probably occur because they built it in MGM, which is one of the 'smaller' parks with less attractions. They wouldn't have the space to do that in MK or Epcot. I don't like to see the old attractions going, but nothings gonna stop disney doing that to make more profits.
