this is a question of relative importance...

I want a definitive answer...

What is goofy,

A man?

A dog?

or a Mawg (half man, half dog.. his own best friend)

this is your chance to chime in and answer...

I'm going to go with Mawg. Dog's don't stand up and talk. Men don't have droopy ears and a dog-like nose.
I think this is pretty cut and dry.
Also, I'd like to see Goofy try to point Pluto-style.
Can't be done, friend. Can't be done.
I'd also like to see Pluto drive a car, Goofy style.
the evidence mounts.

Be warned, by posting a pic from Spaceballs you have started an all out quoting war...

Dark Helmet: What's the matter, Colonel Sandurz? CHICKEN?

Dark Helmet: Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star.
Lone Starr: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become

Goofy

As my favorite, I somehow feel guilty calling Goof a "dog", but in an offical Disney Art release of the "Famous Dogs of Disney" or something to that effect, Goofy is there, so I think, 'officially', he's a dog ...

He's a horse! Just kidding - this poor guy's identity has been abused by the Walt Disney Company, even during Walt's lifetime.
Here I am quoting from the Disney Vault's bio of Goofy, located at the disney.go.com website:

"Goofy was created as a human character, as opposed to Pluto, who was a pet, so he walked upright and had a speaking voice (first supplied by Colvig, and later by George Johnson, Bob Jackman, and Bill Farmer). There were 48 Goofy cartoons (primarily in the 1940s and 1950s), but he also appeared in many cartoons with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. He was best known for his series of "How to" cartoons, where he bumbled through the explanations. In the 1950s, he appeared in several cartoons as Mr. Geef, with a wife and son. The 1990s television series "The Goof Troop" reintroduced Goofy and son, but by this time the son was Max, quite different from his earlier incarnation, and the wife was no longer on the scene. "

So, what does that make him? Human character, Mr. Geef? Dippy Dawg?

Put my vote down for mawg.

Dark Helmet: Say good-bye to your two best friends, and I don't mean your pals in the Winnebago.

Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie?
Colonel Sandurz: You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now is happening now.
Dark Helmet: What happened to then?
Colonel Sandurz: We passed then.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We're at now now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then.
Colonel Sandurz: When?
Dark Helmet: Now!
Colonel Sandurz: Now?
Dark Helmet: Now!
Colonel Sandurz: I can't.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Colonel Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Soon.

C'mon, of course he's a DOG! Like Grizz said, no-one complains this way about the mouse or duck!

Unofficial rules seem to be that if they speak, they can walk on two legs, mute and we're on all fours. So Goofy would possibly be Canis auricus.
