What is going on with the air conditioning at WDW?

They might have done away with that. I stayed at Wilderness Lodge last October and Old Key West in April and the AC stayed on all the time.
Maybe they upgraded to the better ones that have thermal sensors to detect occupancy? Then the AC will stay on as long as you're alive and in the room.

Either that or maybe some genius finally decided to add the option to program the system so that from 11 pm to 7 am, as long as a room is booked, the AC should remain on at the set temperature?

The problem I had with AC is that we'd get our room to a temperature we liked, headed off to the park and then when we came back, housekeeping had fooled around with the settings dropping the temperature to levels closer to that I experienced in the Antarctic than what I was experiencing at WDW.

Going from 36C outside to a 15C room is quite the shock to the system!
