What is going on with Soarin'?

Wait I'm confused... SDL is getting a Soarin video featuring WDW and WDW has a Soarin Video featuring DL.:cautious::cautious:

Here's an idea they'd LOVE: Call me crazy but what they should do is make one Soarin video with all the DVC destinations. Your pilot: Kronk is out; Duffy is in. Fastpasses are only available to DVC members 6 months in advance. The Grand Finale is Elsa in a pine forest (with scent) making in snow. All guests leave the stadium singing "let it go" but are immediately greeted with a blockade of DVC kiosks. Who's on board? :devilish:

Sounds good - when do we start!

No no, FP's are available 9 months out to DVC members that have a Epcot home resort and 7 months out for all other DVC members. then 6 months out for all other guests.:rolleyes:

How long was the original construction period for building Soarin' at Epcot?

And if we get the updated film and 3rd theatre, do you think The Land will shut down and have a refurb, plus update Circle of Life and Living with the Land?

Soarin' at Epcot took just over two years to build.

Judging on past refurb calendars, I would say there is very, very little chance that The Land would shut down and close two additional attractions with it as part of the plan to expand and upgrade the existing Soarin' theaters.

The changeover at DCA of both Soarin' theaters is creating a four month closure of that attraction beginning in January.

Are you sure this refurb is for the new film? Hasn't it been said time and time again that SDL gets it first?

Sorry, I meant the changeover to digital projectors, not the new film. DCA's Soarin' will be closed for four months and reopen in May, 2015 with all new digital projection systems. The new worldwide movie comes later, after it debuts at Shanghai. All rumors according to Miceage, of course.

What's going on with Soarin'?

Aside from the lack of job, preparing to move due to circumstances and overall doom/gloom of my mood, oh, ya know, living the dream.

Oh, you meant the ride.

Probably won't get a solid upgrade (new movie) until after Shanghai opens. Next refurb is probably to clean the lenses because I'm sure that takes weeks if not months to do. Also to save $$$$ on staffing the ride for the time period mentioned.

Disney doesn't have the power to change the seasons. The original Soarin film covers the full swing of the seasons from summer to winter. If they are filming all new footage for a new Soarin Around the World version and they want a certain location to be in a specific season, they have to wait until then to film it.

The rumors also included talk of replacing the projectors with new digital ones, though in order to do that it would require a lengthy shut-down of each theater one at a time. If they're building a third theater they could easily wait for that to come online with the new projector, and then close each of the old theaters one at a time for a refit, and the overall capacity would stay the same as it is right now.
Presumably they'd either run different films in different theaters, or create a film print of the new sequence to show in the old film projector until that theater closes.

Since when do they not have the power to control seasons? I swear they turn the rain on for 30 minutes so everyone buys ponchos and then they turn the rain off and repeat lol :D

I went on the UnDISCOVERed Future World tour last week. As explained to me, yes, additional footage for Soarin' was filmed over WDW. But scenes apparently were also filmed or will be filmed around the world. In a refurb, the idea is that, like Star Tours, scenes would randomly generate but, unlike Star Tours, always end at the park in which you are located. So, if you see it in DL, it ends at DL. If you see it at Epcot, it ends at Epcot, etc.

Because of that, people would want to ride again and again to see and experience different scenes meaning they would need extra capacity. I was told there is room for two more theatres but at least one more will be built. It would also be all digital.

In regard to the question of closing The Land, actually Soarin' isn't in The Land building at all so there would be no need to close the entire pavilion to refurb Soarin. Inside the theatre, you're actually closer to the Canada pavilion than The Land. CMs could just go out one door, cross the back alley, and into the other door. Guests have to walk ALL the way around.

How long could it possibly take? It's not Citizen Kane, just some random helicopter flyovers and a bit of dodgy CGI.

Since you already spilled the proverbial beans (see how it all ties together) it is going to be Soarin' over Citizen Kane. The third theater was deemed necessary since it is now a 119 minute attraction not counting the new Frozen ride preview or ads for fried LWTL veggies.

What's going on with Soarin' is that the film is degrading badly and the experience is heavily impacted by it. All of those specs, dust, etc. in the film. The effect of a golf ball flying by your head is diminished when it disappears behind the big black dot in the sky. Is that an daylight eclipse?

This is just me wishing...not a rumor...but I really hope that if the Soarin' attraction has to be down for months that they also consider using that time to space the seats a little farther apart so that you don't see guest's feet above you which totally kills the illusion (in my opinion it kills the illusion anyway).

Additionally, while I'm going there, it would be wonderful if they expanded the width of the screen too so that A and C groups don't see the sides of the screen anymore. In my opinion, this kills the illusion too.

I think it's possible for them to reconfigure the ride so that everyone gets the B1 experience.
