What is different about booking a trip through a website like Orbitz?

Hi! The title pretty much says it ;) I have booked a trip through Orbitz and want to know what I will be missing out on since I did not book through Disney directly. If anyone could tell me what to expect and what I will need to do, that would be great. Thanks!

You're not really missing out on anything, really. You still get all of the same perks and amenities as if you'd booked through Disney.

If you look halfway down the confirmation email from Orbitz you should find the Disney reservation number and instructions to link it to your MDE account (though you may have to wait 24-48 hours until the Disney and Orbitz computers sync up) After that, you'll be able to customize your Magic Bands. (double check the shipping address though, as it's usually set as the Orbitz corporate offices in Chicago)

We added a day to our trip last year. We already had 7 nights at Saratoga Springs, and wanted the extra night at the start of the trip to be cheap. We were able to get a room at Riverside for the same special offer price Disney was offering *plus* an Orbitz promo code for an additional 15% off *plus* a special of an additional bonus $50 in OrBucks for booking a Disney hotel.

You won't be able to do the Dining Plan as that is only available with packages booked direct through Disney. Other than DDP, there aren't any real differences. We had some issues linking our hotel reservation to MDE when we booked through Expedia. 6 phone calls to Expedia and Disney later, we had everything sorted out. Hopefully Orbitz is better at coughing up the Disney confirmation number than Expedia.

The difference is that you'll have to manually add the reservation number yourself, unlike booking through MDE where your stay is automatically added. After that, the process is no different.

The ability to cancel without a fee possibly. And the ability to apply a newly released discount code after the fact (like free dining).

While there aren't huge differences, next time, I recommend a Disney specific travel agency. Because Disney is what they specifically work with, they are always on their game with keeping up with discounts and specials to help you with your trip.

I had the same problem with Expedia. No Disney 12 digit confirmation number in sight to link to my MDE account. Like, you, took several calls to Expedia and Disney to get it linked. Ended up calling the resort directly to make special room requests since that wasn't working properly.

That's one of the reasons I like Orbitz. They include the Disney confirmation number right in your receipt email. They also include a direct link to MDE to link it to your account (and also inform newbies about MDE in the first place).

I even think they've fixed the long-term "bug" they've had where kids were being listed as adults and charged the extra adult fees.

Lastly, you can often "stack" discounts with Orbitz by using an Orbitz discount code on top of a Disney general-public room-only discount offer.

We booked Jan 10th thru 13th on Orbitz and saved 15% off the AP discounted rate, plus got Orbitz bucks back for next time.

It was very easy to enter the res number in MDE, and thanks to reading here, I knew to make sure to change the address for the magic bands. Everything else was normal - personalizing the magic bands, online check-in, etc. Seems all good so far! Magic bands shipped today. :joyfull:

I missed that coupon!! Actually, I was checking prices with that coupon, but hadn't made up my mind yet. Then it expired and the new one is only 15%.

Good job getting the better one!
Thanks! This really has made my first trip onsite with my daughter a dream come true! I checked and saved more than 300 dollars :) enjoy your trip!

I was able to get a promo code added onto a Disney hotel booking on Orbitz over the weekend when I was helping a friend price out a short trip.

I don't know if I am doing something different, but I just went in to Orbitz to look at hotels for Orlando May 7 thru May 15 and no promo code came up. Same as July, end of February. My screen look's like Expedia's screen only say's Orbitz at the top. Do I have to be a member to see a promo code? Never did before.
