What If There Was No More Alcohol?

The longer I'm a member of these forums the more I see posts about drinking on property. Everything from folks saying they use the bus service so they can imbibe to discussions re: the recent announcement that Disney was getting a little stricter on their proof-of-age requirements (and the subsequent discussion) to trip reports where folks mention one of their trip plans is to drink. I also remember what a huge development it was when they announced last year that there would be alcohol on the BOG menu.

All this got me to thinking...

What if there was no more alcohol on property? Would WDW still be a vacation destination for you?

I'm not a drinker. Even if I was though, I don't think I'd drink in the parks. I've had the occasional specialty drink (never more than one) at places like Rainforest Cafe but only ever with a meal (and again, extremely rarely). I get drunk on the fact that I am at Disney and it's a better "high" than anything else for me.

When Pleasure Island opened I remember thinking it was a smart move by Disney to give the adult travelers a place to unwind and imbibe without being around the scores of children and families. I remember when posts started years ago about "Drinking Around The World (Showcase)" and how unnecessary it felt to me.

I'm not trying to say that everyone who likes the occasional drink is a drunk or drinks to get there... please don't misunderstand... just that alcohol, to me, has never really felt like something should be necessary on property outside of bars/lounges/clubs geared toward adult guests.

Are you folks sitting down?????????? Are you sure?????????? As much as I enjoy an adult beverage or 3 on vacation, it wouldn't change a thing! I don't go to Disney for the drinkypoos. Now if they were to get rid of all of my favorite food, that might cause me to pack my own or leave for foodo_O

In the Parks
No
I drink when its available and I'm in the mood. If it were not available I wouldn't change my Disney habits. I don't go out with the intent to drink to get plastered drunk, I drink because when I'm in the mood I enjoy a drink.

Disney would loose a fair amount of money if they removed alcohol from bars and restaurants in the parks. I don't see it as "necessary" or "unnecessary", it's a service that's provided. Drinking to excess shouldn't happen anywhere, regardless of whether there are children/families present, conversely drinking responsibly shouldn't be discouraged whether there are children/families present or not.

Yes. I will have the occasional cocktail with dinner at a restaurant and I'm interested in trying the alcoholic dole whip at the F&W but the ability to drink is not the main point of my vacation.
That's actually a fantastic example... As I said above, I don't drink in the general sense except on extremely rare occasions. When we were there in March for Flower & Garden they also had the alcoholic Dole Whip and it was actually on my list of things to try while we were there (but I didn't end up with one) just because it was... HELLO... a Dole Whip! LOL

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.
Personally i wouldn't mind seeing the "bars" gone from WDW. I understand some people like to have a drink with their meal (and some say it improves it) but i don't see the need for getting tipsy at the park.just my 2 pence ,and i know alchomohol will always win out due to the money involved
