What If There Was No More Alcohol?

I love the all inclusives. But I have not gotten drunk at them. It's no fun to wake up the next morning and have your day shot with a hangover.

Drunk does not equal hangover, nor does hangover equal drunkeness. Depending one what I drank when I was drunk (and when I say drunk, I mean simply clearly under the effects of alcohol, I do not mean falling over, vomiting, passing out, or any such nonsense like that- I haven't been that drunk since college) I can wake up the next morning bright eyed and ready to go. Sitting in the pool at the bar watching the sunset on St. Lucia after a long day with free drinks and having eating nothing but seafood crepes, it is easy to have a few, stand up, and say "whoa, OK I guess I had a few". I was up for first breakfast seating the next day.

However, give me two glasses of red wine (and this only started in the last year or so) too close to bed time (say less than 2 hours) and I wake up with a whipping headache that lasts until noon. That really stinks because i have a thing for red Bordeaux, but what are you going to do? I guess it is just like any other allergy or food sensitivity that people develop - you change to accomidate it.

Of course we'd still go.

I think most of us who enjoy a cocktail or two in Disney World aren't going there to get hammered. (We'd go broke if we tried!) Sampling some of the specialty drinks can be as much a part (and as innocent a part) of the Disney experience as having a Dole Whip or a Mickey bar.

That being said, last time we went it was during Epcot's Food and Wine Festival, and we quickly learned to avoid walking through World Showcase at night. A few revelers had over-imbibed and were stumbling into us (and narrowly stepping on our children) and/or using very un-Disney-like language.

I like an occasional drink but there is no way I want to be obliterately drunk on a wdw vaca let alone any vaca.

Well Disney and their Touch To Pay may make it easier for guests rack up a liquor bill. There is something to be said for having cash on hand for an evening and when it is gone the well runs dry.

I think the vast majority of guests are in your camp, have no desire ever to have that tipsy feeling. When I was real young a heavy handed bartender at a wedding made a whiskey sour for me with more whiskey than sour. I didn't know better. Now at weddings I insist on light...or I have them mix white wine with 7Up for a spritzer. Through the evening I can have a couple of drinks that way without the thought of going BOOM!

Yes, I would still go. I actualy drink very little alcohol at Disney compared to at home. I do have a few drinks I like to have just at Disney.

I agree. A couple drinks is fine and then there is no BOOM!!!

Well, it wouldn't matter too much since I'm not that crazy about alcohol. I'd still go regardless. I said this earlier but the reasons why we visit WDW in the first place is not just one ride, one show, one character or in this thread, one alcoholic drink, it's everything. We come for the environment, spending time with our families or pampering ourselves if traveling solo to enjoy a multitude of experiences we'll never forget.

I guess my main reason for not really having had more than 2 or 3 drinks total while on WDW property (and I mean 2 or 3 total as in my entire adult life vacationing there) is because I get nauseated on a lot of attractions without alcohol so add that in there and I'd be in trouble. LOL!

I so agree with this! We love a great all inclusive to!

It drives me banana's when I see people spending all this money to go to a beautiful place, for what? To get wrecked?? To have to stay in the room till noon the next day because their hung over. Wasteful if you ask me, but, just my opinion.

Happened to us more than once, but not again.

Do I "need" a drink? No. Do I think it enhances certain elements of my trip- most definitely. I mean, I "need" it about as much as I need another trip to WDW.

On top of that, there's a significant difference between enjoying a drink for the flavor of the drink or the pairings involved vs. drinking to get drunk. Even the one time we drank around the world (and got a bit tipsy), we were not slobbering drunks and were doing it to appreciate different offerings from each country in the WS. Ultimately, I think that's the area of WDW that really benefits from the drinks...i.e. it merely adds to the depth of the experience from that specific country. I don't drink much at home, but on vacation it's just a nice treat.
Exactly this .... and Sandy, you made a great point, "On top of that, there's a significant difference between enjoying a drink for the flavor of the drink or the pairings involved vs. drinking to get drunk" .... I can honestly say, everyone I have ever spoken to, including myself, once you start feeling tipsy, we either get something to nibble on or get a soda to lessen the *OMG I'm gonna see dancing elephants" effect of indulging a tad too much. I've said this before, but I have seen people tipsy at F&W but never down right ossified. I always thought Disney did a great job controlling *alcoholic behavior*, if that makes sense. The nastiest Ive ever seen anyone who obviously indulged too much, was at the Tambu Lounge. A *gentleman* was watching a football game, and the opposing team scored a touchdown, he yelled out an obscenity, his wife told him to quiet down, he told her to shut the fudge up (but didnt say fudge) Nice........ but never witnessed behavior like this in any park

I have encountered drunks using the most foul language and behaving in offensive, trashy manner. I have a bit off a potty mouth and have been shocked at what I hear people - even young women! - saying (and on occasion, shrilly screeching.)

People who say they've witnessed it are not prissy teetotalers. They're regular, honest people who are telling the truth.

Disney is running a drinking festival in a theme park. Unsurprisingly, drunks have been attracted to it.

I've seen some folks who've had one too many when attending Illuminations mostly. We try to let it go but once witnessed a CM having to escort someone out (though it was years ago). I was always kind of surprised that Food & Wine was a "during normal park hours thing." Not complaining because I love the food aspect of it and when I do drink, my drink of choice (at home) is wine so I love trying new options BUT seems it could've been something they charged extra for and made a separate event after park hours like MNSSHP etc. too. Just my two cents and not meaning any offense to anyone. As I said, I love that it's during Park Hours but hate it as well y'know? Sure seems like from TDO's perspective they missed an opportunity to charge an admission fee though. LOL! :D

Out trips are adult trips, and we like to do adult things. Of course, I like the parks and the rides and the immersive experience of the copious thematic elements that abound in the Disney bubble, but I also like the fine dining and lounge hopping. I love the Food and Wine Festival. Having some drinks while on vacation is part of the whole experience. Take away my bourbon and beer and creative cocktails, and you take away a part of my vacation that I can replace at another destination, and I will not hesitate to do so.

I like to imbibe delicious alcoholic beverages, and I'm sorry if it offends some of you, but in certain situations, say when I'm on vacation and celebrating my life and freedom from the daily grind, I like to get sufficiently inebriated. I am well-behaved, in general, and downright jolly when I have a few. So you teetotalers out there can cut me some slack. I promise not to yell too loudly, vomit on your shoes or pee in the bushes.
