Song of the Rainforest closing at Rafiki’s Planet Watch is what got me on these boards as I discovered other people made up their own version of what should go on in these parks. I always liked coming up with rides but losing what was, to me, a really unique lesser known attraction pushed me into exploring making my own version of the parks.

Probably the one and only thing Song of the Rainforest inspired ever

Going back to bucket list parks, for me it's absolutely Efteling. I'm sure DisneySea is excellent too and realistically I'll probably get there first, but Efteling pretty much appeals to all my current theme park sensibilities. There's absolutely no IP or "corporate overlord" factor, it's a dark ride paradise with a few really solid coasters, it's got a ton of quirky little secrets you can find just walking around taking in the park atmosphere, from what I've seen it doesn't really seem to get mega crowded in the same way a Disney or even higher profile Six Flags/Cedar Fair park can get. Just all around feels like the "perfect" park for me at this particular point in my life outside of the language barrier on the dark rides.

Also can we please talk about how annoying it is that you now have to confirm reactions?

While I don't know exactly what the first armchair Imagineering project I saw was, I do recall reading bits of this section of these forums, a few blogs, and even wikis designed for fan material which had many park ideas amongst its articles. I also recall seeing at least one of S.W. Wilson's early park or attraction plans in real time before it was taken down, though whether it was on Ideal Buildout or somewhere else he was on I don't know.

Almost/Half a decade later, I began easing back into reading up on these forums again - discovering a few projects I really, really loved in the process - and the rest is history!

Sorry, but ever since they closed the haunted house that Kate Bush did a TV Special in a few years ago, I have lost all interest in going to Efteling!

A more serious answer would definitely be the old park stuff they used to play on Vault Disney (wow, really aging myself with that one...) The "Disneyland Fun" sing-along is probably THE very first piece of media I ever remember from childhood so the parks have always been somewhat omnipresent in my life, but I specifically remember Vault Disney airing a clip of Walt talking about the concept of theme park design as an art form that was essentially my "I shall don the appearance of a BAT!" origin story moment. Just blew my whole mind wide open.

I had to look up what Song Of The Rainforest was and, gods, it looks surreal as a Dali painting.

BEHOLD, GRANDMOTHER BANYAN!

I’m not even kidding, Grandmother Willow looks like one of those pictures of the Southeast Asian temples that have been overgrown by banyans.

Hey, a lot of that was what got me interested in the parks, too!

Those, and the Travel Channel documentaries on Disneyland and Walt Disney World
