What Happens to Items Left Behind in Rooms?

I have a question, and I could not find the answer with a search of the forums. On the way from the airport to the resort, my wife wants to get a small, cheap microwave for the room. There's no way we're going to bring it back to Chicago.

Here's the question: If we leave a microwave oven in the room when we go, what happens to it? Will it stay in the room for all subsequent guests of that room? Will it go into storage at the hotel? Will it go into a general lost-and-found?

If the hotel doesn't already have microwaves in the rooms, they will probably call you after they find it and tell u that u left it there. Sorry that doesn't really answer ur question.

Not old, just vintage.
My question is why you HAVE to have a microwave IN the room. Most Disney resorts have perfectly good microwaves in the food court area that you can use whenever you want.

If you insist on having one in the room you might consider trying to find a Rent-A-Center nearby that you could get one from. That way you wouldn't be throwing away a hundred bucks on a microwave.

If you do buy one and leave it in the room, my guess would be that they will either try to mail it to you, send it to central lost and found, or (gasp) will be pocketed by a CM (that would NEVER happen however...:lookaroun )

Because it's more convenient to have one in the room, and we plan to use it often.

You can get cheap microwaves at Wal-Mart for $39.

Any CMs know what would actually happen?

They mail it to you. My daughter left her sunglasses in the room and a couple of days later a package arrived with her glasses.

It will either be sent to you, or brought to Property Control.

Alternatively, depending on what resort you're in, the management may then remove it from your room, leaving a note that it is not permitted.

Call the resort to find out the deals with microwaves, first. You may also be able to rent one from the resort.

In general, though, I would say that it's a poor decision to bring a microwave, regardless where you're buying it and what you're planning to do with it. Why is it such a necessity to have a microwave, anyway? All you've said is that you plan to be using it often.

I was just wondering where you are staying. In your list of where you stayed before it lists POR and I know that they have microwaves in the room, at least that is what the WDW website states.

I don't remember having a microwave the last time I was at PoR which was in Jan. And for those who wonder why, it would be much easier than walking all the way down to the food court everyday to heat up your oatmeal. It saves time and money.

Last time I was at POR there was not a microwave in the room. Who cares why he wants one, all he did was ask a question. Why did this turn into a debate over microwaves.

It might be easier for you and cheaper to buy a hot pot that boils water, instead of a microwave. You could boil water for your oatmeal and your tea, hot chocolate, or coffee. We always take one on vacation with us.

This is an excellent suggestion!

For oatmeal, use the coffee pot to get some hot water and viola! Oatmeal
Another excellent suggestion, though some of the food itself needs to be cooked.

Based on the useful half of robynchic's post, I've e-mailed Disney to see if microwaves at POR are 1) legal and 2) rentable. I'll post the reply.

Don't worry, Our family spent a week at the French Quarter, and because we have a small child we decided to purchase a 39.00 Microwave and figured we would abandon it once our vacation was over, But... The microwave was packaged really well and the airline had no problem with it so we packed a roll of shipping tape and when we were ready to go home, packed some stuff into the microwave and taped it closed. Brought it to the airport with the rest of our stuff and now we have a spare until the next trip.

P.S. Now we live closer to the magic and if were spending more than a couple of days we just load the microwave into an oversize nylon bag and tote it with us.

Also, everyone is permitted to bring 2 parcels with you on the plane (at least on United). When my father and I were moving Grandma from Boca Raton to northern VA (March 13-15). My dad and I used one bag for our stuff, Grandma had two suitcases and two boxes, along with two walkers.

Put that into consideration- especially if you have teenagers. That microwave could come in handy for college ;) And let's not forget- you can donate it. There's a lot you can do with a microwave when you don't plan on using it anymore.

Edit:

BF and I will be staying in a DVC resort (Boardwalk). We plan on stopping by Publix before we arrive (or we may go to the general store on the boardwalk) to get COLD cereal and breakfast stuff, so that's a cost-cutter right there...it'll still be cheaper than getting a microwave.

We use the microwave all the time. It's nice when you relaxing in your room after a LONG day of walking to make some hot butter popcorn. Time you walk down to the hotel/motel microwave then come back your popcorn is COLD!!!! Plus in the middle of the night if you want a snack that needs warmed up. You would have to get dress just to go down to warm it up.

Hell, we bought a cheap DVD player (Wal-Mart) 2 years ago to watch movies in our room. Why pay for in room movies. We just bring movies from home. To save space we pack the DVD's in thoses CD cases so you just bring cd not the box. Our holds 30 DVD/CD's.

I assume you're driving....because I don't think taking a microwave with you if your're flying would be a good idea.

I would seriously ask the resort about a rental or if you're driving...buy one at local walmart. I think the space one would take up would be able to be used more wisely with something else.

Personally....I don't think the hassle of going to get one or packing one is worth the few bucks a day you'll save by cooking oatmeal in the room.

I also suggest calling the resort and see if you can even bring your own. They might have to have it inspected to make sure it's not a fire hazard. If it's not permitted and housekeeping see it...they will remove it.
