What happens if MK hits capacity and...

They still check dining and tour reservations in the early morning. They do not check for phase closures. I believe you that they did in the past. They do not any longer.
OK, then how do they handle people with reservations after a park phase closure. Are then sent packing or is there a method used to bypass the closing and let them in and how do they handle the reservations that have a charge for a missed reservation.

This just isn't true. They have no such list. However, if you make it to the Magic Kingdom gate, you will be allowed entrance, especially with a reservation.

No such what list? The phased closures? Nothing to suggest the article isn’t true, afaik.

If they scan a band they can see if you’re an onsite guest and any ADRs you may have.

And if they let anyone in who can get to the MK, then all you need to do is get to the Contemporary and walk. Which means you could get there using the resort monorail, a bus from another park, Uber etc. Unless they scan at the security check point along the path which they don’t normally do.

I’ve been at Bay Lake over New Year, and seen the phased closures on NYE in operation. At that point, any onsite guests were still being allowed in. Those with specific MK tickets or those coming from offsite were redirected to one of the other parks, and given anytime FPs to make up for the “disappointment”.

I don’t know what happened to those with ADRs who were coming from offsite though. But by far their biggest problem was the traffic jam getting into WDW period. Unless they had allowed an extra 3 hours to get to MK, they had no chance anyway!

This morning 12/27 at 10:30 am World Drive looking north to Magic Kingdom parking lot. Like an L.A. freeway.

I believe if you have reservations you are allowed to enter.
Yeah it's probably the same as how it used to be when they would only allow you early access to the MK if you had reservations that you showed them at Guest Relations prior to rope drop. It was always cool to be able to get a shot on Main St with it almost completely empty. Now that's almost impossible since they let people in to line up at the ropes to the actual Lands before the official opening and even do that little Castle show.

From what I understand, if they get to the gate, they get in. If they're turned away somewhere else, their reservations will be refunded.

During a true Phase 4 closing they aren't allowed to let anyone in (regardless if you made it to the gate). Once capacity is reached entrance to the Park ceases.......

As stated earlier in this thread, the last Phase 4 closing was Easter of 2009. Since then capacity has been increased +20,000 with the New Fantasyland expansion.....

This doesn't however, mean that during a Phase 4 closure a Cast Member can't override and let someone in. If they did they would be violating the "stated" policy......who knows what would happen if there was another Phase 4 closure as the peeps behind the curtain could instruct the frontline to do anything to appease those being stopped

The parks have been consistently busier and combined with the way in which they changed the loading (it is no longer a continuous loop of vehicles), it has added to a greater wait time. Honestly, I'd be happy for them to add FP+ to this.
NO!!! THERE'S NO REASON TO ADD IT!! Plus they won't because there's no place for them to corral a standby line.
