My buddy brought up a good point the other day. Months before the show started we remember taking the Back lot Tour at MGM and the host pointing out a number of GTOs for the up and coming Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show!!!! Now that we have all seen the show it doesn't appear they decided to go with the GTOs. I mean I can figure out the number of reasons why (fuel prices, fuel consumption from that huge engine, curb weight, overall size, expense of upkeep, etc) I mean it was kinda a no brainer NOT to use them but what ever happened to them and does anyone know EXACTLY why they are not using them???

The GTO's were only back there for the drivers to use as test vehicles. They were never to be in the show, just for the drivers to work on the stunts.

Dont you mean its a sports car by Holden in Australia that was dumbed down and dumped on an eager US market? Anyway i don't think they were ever meant to be in the show, they are too big and bulky for the stunts they do. Although im sure since they have alot power to the rear wheels it helped them to learn to drift around a little bit better.

I think they were shells of the cars, seeing as though most of the cars arent really cars. Plus I never noticed any sponsorship. They are just generic shells with fictional names.

Um, they're "real cars" they're just not sold in north america. Most hot hatches aren't sold in north america. The cars used in LMA are GM cars sold in Europe

They are opels to be specific. But from what i hear they will be coming here in the next few years. Obviously cars are far from stock since they have a motorcyle engine and the transmission has 4 fwd and 4 rev.thats a bit different from what you can buy in europe or here.

They never were using them.

They were always using GM Opals, which is what they use in Paris. Those opals are stunt cars rebuilt and modified with motorcycle engines in them, specifically meant for this type of show.

My guess is you had an uninformed CM doing backlot.

The Pontiac GTOs were there for testing and display to promote sales for the car. Long ago they had the chevy lumina on the back lot. They do it to make you think "hey wow i can buy a car that like the one they use in stunt shows!" Its the same as people going out and buying monte carlos cause nascar drivers use them.

Opel

Those cars are OPEL and the model is called CORSA , they are sold in Europe by GM... I know it because I live in Europe and I' ve seen the Show... :)
They are little cars, so easy to drive (naturally modified for tyhe stunts ) but with very good and powerful motors (there is a model with only 3 cylinder is 1.0 liter and has only 50HP , but It reach easily 100mph alias 160KM/h ,but I think they use for the show the most powerful CORSA that is the 1.6 Gsi Turbo..It goes fast, near 200KM/h.. )
bye!

The cars they use are Opels, but the shell of them is a copy of a Vauxhall Corsa - Opel must have bought the rights to all of Vauxhall Cars, because you can get Opel Astra's & some other Vauxhall designed cars.

Lets see if I can help a little here

The GTO is an incredibly sought after muscle car produced by Pontiac in the late 60's and early 70's. GTO from what I was told stood for Grand Tour Ontiago. I don't know how correct that is but is sounds cool either way. Pontiac decided to re-release the GTO for the 2004 model year. What they did was make minor modifications to rear wheel drive sedan produced by a GM subsidiary in Australia. In essence modify it to meet US standards and slap a GTO logo on it. IMHO the new GTO is crap and nothing even close to deserving of the name GTO. It was basically a quick way for GM to try and capitalize on the retro craze started by Chrysler Corporation with the release of the PT Cruiser.

The cars that are used in LMA are an Opel Corsa as mentioned before but about the only part that is even close to original is the skin. Everything else is custom made from the ground up. The engines in them are not even car engines but 1300 cc motorcycle engines.

There are a couple of reasons I can think of why they did not use the GTO as the body style for LMA. First and foremost it is really to big for the set. In order to use a car that size the set would have required a good bit more space. Second these cars were already being used in the original Paris version of the show. Because of that the design had already been perfected. If they were to design a new car from the ground up all the bugs that were worked out in Paris would again have to be worked out in Orlando.

In a nut shell reusing the original design was much less expensive all around.
