What ever happened to Mr. Toad

I don't think I ever got the chance to ride MT. Doesn't sound like I missed much, though some people seem to want it back.

It does still exist at Disneyland, and to be perfectly honest it's not a very good ride.

I agree with you Merf. It had been since the mid-90s since I had ridden it at WDW and last summer went to Disneyland and rode Mr. Toads.

I was surprised with all of the praise that is garnered upon it, how subpar it was compared to Pooh.

Makes you wonder how many other attractions that are currently praised are more a figment of nostalgia (that would be Figment with a beard and cane I guess:lol:).

Fans of the WDW version will also say as much...that DL's version just isn't as good as WDW's was. The WDW version had wide-open show scenes where (as long as you didn't look down at the tracks) you could really get the impression that the car was going to take you anywhere. There were also two separate tracks with different scenes that came together in a few spots, adding a little bit of "oh noez, we gonna crash!" fun to the mix. I only rode it as a young kid and I've only seen videos of DL's, but it seems like WDW's version had more of a "manic" feel while DL's is more linear.

Compare for yourself if you've never seen both —

I too was a huge Toad fan. Unfortunetely I dont think Mr toad had the marketing ability that Pooh had. Money talks.

The version in Disneyland is nowhere close to what the ride in WDW was? If all you've seen is Disneylands then I can understand why you think it was boring. The one in WDW was great. I understand why its gone, but I still miss it terribly.

It closed for one simple reason. The guest counts were too low. When people stop riding an attraction they are revamped or replaced. In Toad's case replaced was WDW's solution.
Mr. Toad was a very popular attraction -- I remember it being well packed with people during the day, just the same as with the Pooh ride that sits there today.

I personally loved the ride, to bad it's gone. :(

I beg to differ. I rode Mister Toad on several occasions before the ride was closed. I didn't particularly LIKE the attraction, but it was the only ride in Fantasy Land that was always a walk on. It may have been popular prior to the 2 years I rode it, but during the last 2 years of it's exisitence, when I was in The Magic Kingdom, which was at least twice a year, it was not only never crowded, but sometime my wife and I were the only ones on the entire ride.

I agree. If it were still open today, I think a lot of people would be complaining that it doesn't live up to the Disney Standard.

Two dimensional cutouts can hardly compare to today's high tech AA's. (or even the AA's of the Seventies)

Crashing into the train scared me every time. Now I have the truck on Test Track.

The only scene that was a true standout, but also quite scary for a lot of children.

It was a classic Dark Ride. Snow White and peter pan are both basically the same and look at the diffrence in attendance.

It definitely wasn't a technical marvel, but it certainly did have character about it that the pooh ride just doesn't have. I understand why pooh is there, it sells much more merchandise than Toad ever could, but man do I miss Toad. Aside from Space Mountain and 20k it was the other ride my dad and I would ride over and over when I was a kid.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I would say that it was a dark ride, not a "classic" dark ride.

And any similarity with Snow White and Peter Pan would be...they are all dark rides, period.

Towards the end of its life popularity wained greatly. The attraction was a walk on save for peak season.

Okay, the time for whining is over. It is time we did something about this. Everytime a thread speaks of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride it seems to be with reverence. How about trying to have Disney develope a new Mr.Toad's Wild Ride. They have a Roger Rabbit ride in Disneyland. How about an updated, dark, wilder, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Send forth the word.
