What does it really say?

Sure as your born is a positive confirmation of something. Like do you want to go fishing? Sure as you're born, I do! Shortened to "sure as you're born". The question was asked "How do you do"? The answer... "Pretty good, sure as you're born". Not real complex.

P.S. balls and born don't even closely sound alike. Not sure how anyone could have heard it that way.

Lol that's the point! WE knew what the lyric was and WE know what the phrase means but other people don't. Born is sung with a southern American dialect and it sounds like "bown" to me. I don't hear "ball" but there is more than a few people that do.

So....the song on splash mountain says something and we can't figure out what it says, but my husband (who makes up his own words to all songs anyway) always say's "pretty good, show us your balls" LOL...it's so funny cause he says it every time that part of the song comes on and we don't know what it says otherwise! HELP! LOL:p
You obviously know how to use the internet. You couldn't use google to look up the lyrics?Seems a little attention seeking. This is a family site and the whole subject seems inappropriate.

And I feel stupid because I just realized the original post is 6 years old. I took the bait.

Well, knowing everyone is different, I'll agree. That said, however, I was born, raised and lived 63 years in the north (30 miles from the Canadian border) and I always heard "sure as you're born" from the very first time. I did have a problem following the total song, lyric wise, but, after a couple of listens it all fit in. So we hear what we hear, I guess. To me if there were to be any confusion it might be because the phrase "sure as you're born" is more of a southern expression, like "bless his heart" and "all y'all"! :)

There's a school of thought that says the "sure as you're born" refers to the reply that one can reasonably expect to get ("Pretty good") and is not part of the reply itself.

So that line in the song would then be punctuated, "With everyone repeatin': 'Pretty good,' sure as you're born."

That's hilarious that you thought that too!!! We've been singing those words since 1997!!! Even now we know the words, each time we're there it's always "show us your balls" :joyfull:
