What does it cost to run WDW?

just got back from the world last night actually. (and DME lost half of my luggage, but that's a different story.)

i was having this conversation with an off-duty cast member, and was told that WDW generates its own power from the plant NE of MK and that they actually sell some of the power back to FPL. i've heard that before, but still not sure of the factuality. i think its obvious that something like this would skew financial data even more if true...

RCES produces 25% of WDW's electricity. I do believe that some of that energy is delivered to areas around WDW but I am not entirely certain.

In fiscal 2006 Disney's theme park division brought in $9.925 billion in revenues and had $1.534 billion in operating income. I guess that would mean $8.391 billion in expenses, or $23 million dollars a day. That's for the entire division, not just WDW.

Just for WDW in 2006: attendance increased 5%; per capita spending was up 1%; resort occupancy was 86%; per room guest spending was $211.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

(I figured since we were asking those 'types' of questions... :lookaroun )

Believe it or not, I am such a Disney Geek that I used Disney as a project for my Principles of Finance class. I determined their profit margin and such utilizing their annual financial statements. I still have them saved on my computer if you would like me to send you a copy. If you can't decipher the financials (and not a lot of people can), I can break it down for you.

Just let me know. :)

Oh, and, BTW, welcome!!!!

That sounds really interesting! Would you mind breaking it down for me too?

Eleventy-billion dollars?? So many factors that it's pretty tough to say, but I'm sure you can see the park revenue and compare gross and net profits. Voila
