What does California have to do with WDW? Why can't Disney film a new film for WDW?

1. Soarin over California is a great film.
2. Soarin over Florida would stink in comparison.
3. They are saving the new film for Epcot's anniversary.

How's that?

And Soarin' Over California will not be out of place, no more out of place than any film in the Wolrd Showcase or even Mission: Space. Just like they do in M:S they just need to tell you that todays flight is over California.

It makes sense to have it open with the California film to coinside with the Disneyland 50th aniversary celebration.

It will then allow the attraction to have a "2nd opening" with the debut of a new film that fits better long term at WDW.

I really don't understand this complaint. It's like saying Epcot isn't on Mars so you shouldn't put Mission:Space there. Or all of World Showcase, for that matter.

As others have, and will, point out, Florida isn't the most exciting state visually anyway, and if/when it does get replaced (the film) it likely won't be "Soarin' Over Flordia".

I, as a Floridian, could care less about what amounts to a travelogue for California. Yes, I'm sure it's a great film. Yes, I'm sure it's a great ride. But why give stroke to a state who's people are the biggest egomaniacs in the country (anyone who disputes it, take a trip to Hollywood sometime)? Hey! How about this (if Florida is boring, as some people appear to believe)? How about Soarin' over America, where you get to fly over, around and through geographic high points of our country, not one agrandized state with a film from a ride at a park that was meant to showcase it's host state.

Well, having seen the DCA film already I'd say the Soarin'/Florida film would be a tough sell. The ride would never move. Unless you were flying over the water and sharks jumped up at your feet. HMM...

That'd be cool now that I think of it...

IMO, "Soarin' over California" seems like an E-Ticket bird dropping that will have to mold the Land. "Soarin' over the LAND" would show a lot more care for Epcot's essence. . .

But that's my opinion.

Completely agree. Even better than Soarin over the USA with more flexability on what the film can contain. No wonder you're a General. :)

I agree with at least with opening the ride with a California film, and then later changing it to a more EPCOT appropriate film. I never ever want to see Soarin' over Florida though. I've lived in Florida all my life, and aside from the beaches it's just a state full of orange groves and swamps, nothing real interesting to fly over at all. I like the idea of Sorin' over the USA. That really opens up more oppertunities to soar over more diverse landscapes, and it might just tie in to the LAND a little bit better.

I enjoyed the California ride film when I went to DCA so I've got no reservations about seeing it in Epcot. If they decide to change the ride film to a 'USA' version, that'll be nice.

Obviously a new ride film would raise the cost of this ride to an amount they didn't want to pay right now.

I agree that a new film would be nice. But I also think that Soarin should be open by 2005, why should we have to wait for a new film?
The Soarin over California film is beautiful, except for a reference to the Golden Gate Bridge, Disneyland, DCA, and Hollywood, I remember just "soarin" over mountains, water, and beautiful scenery that I couldn't necessarily say "yep thats California". Now it has been about a year since I rode it, but I don't think that having that ride at WDW is going to be out of place.

C'mon, "if they build it, people will come", regardless of the ride theme.

I think that Soarn' will be a fine addition to The Land. Although, I think some MAJOR traffic re-working needs to be done, due to the fact that two big FP attractions would be in the same building, and on the 1st floor, which you must decent to. I think that the FP machines should be at the enterance to The Land, as well as 1 or two machines on the enterence level. That way, you can just grab a FP and go to Innoventions, The Living Seas, or Imaganation! Just my opinion. I think the film will work out fine, just give it a chance. Never been on Soarin', so don't know what to expect. I do wish to know one thing...Will it make you sick if you ride after a nice lunch :slurp: at the Garden Grill or Sunshine Season Food Fair? :hurl:

I think it will turn out fine!
From what i've heard, Soarin' is great, so California will be fine. If anything, i think that they could change the end to flyin over ECPOT instead of Disneyland, but just after the 50th

You could look at them using the California film first as a cheap way to get the ride up and running. They already have the film and the ride movements calculated and ready to enter into the Florida ride system, so it's a good way for them to get the attraction going in the shortest amount of time. But hopefully they will feature different films as time goes by. Such as Soarin' Over: Hawaii, the Amazon, Egypt, Antartica, the Moon (wouldn't that be a fun trip!).

I think that Disney could have gone out and filmed a new version of Soarin with in the past year. However, there is a praticual side to this that I can understand. If they put soarin over Cali in first, then updating the film within a couple years time will seem as if they are keeping the attraction updated. The general public will fell as if they are getting a new attration (AE to Stitch deal) while really only investing in one film.

I take offense to your comments about California as I am a native Californian. It is my understanding that the attraction at Epcot is only called Soarin' and not Soarin' Over California. The film doesn't state it is California and doesn't promote CA as being better than elsewhere. CA is a good example of diverse landscapes as you will see in the film. If they want to showcase different land environments then showing California is a good example. There are deserts, mountains, rivers, cities, harbors, beaches, farms, etc. You wouldn't know it was California unless you recognized the cities or mountains or beaches and of course Disneyland at the end. Remember to keep smelling during the ride. Just enjoy the film and enjoy the great attraction. I know you will like it once you see it.
