You can find help and explanations here...

Is there a comprehensive user's guide somewhere on the site? I keep going to general discussion pages (mostly about people's opinion of the rep system). It is a little unnerving to someone new on this site... almost makes you afraid to post since you can't even find the rules. I was sending unsigned (positive) rep points because I just didn't know any better.

Please no one tell me to use the search!! Any other help would be appreciated. :veryconfu :brick: :veryconfu

Thanks,
Ducky!

No need to search as I have already done that for you. Click the link in my post above, its for the help forums. Its where Steve announced the Rep System and there are discusions there as well.

Many people send unsigned rep (or leave no comment). Personally, I like to know who is agreeing or disagreeing with me.

Okay, here's one for the people in the "know".

The other threads (that I really have read, promise) say that a grey box means the person doesn't have enough rep points to matter. How many rep points do I need to "matter"? Should I not bother sending rep points until I have multiple green boxes?

I know everyone is sick of the rep points conversation... sorry!

If you find a person's post helpful then by all means click away, and please leave a little message. Not quite sure what the cut off point is (its set by the site administrator). You have no idea how many points someone else has (unless they tell you) so you do not know how you will effect their score.
There is a definate formula in regards to how many points you can give (or take away) and again thats set by the site administrator (if I understand correctly).

If you have questions for Steve post them in the help forum and you will get an answer.

I just can't understand why this stuff isn't in the FAQ's instead of mile long threads. I've been on the site four months.. and still trying to figure things out. Off to the help forum I go... tra la la.. (thanks again!!)

One quick rule for posting negative rep:

Don't do it unless you have a really good reason. This is a discussion board, which means we won't always agree (and that's a good thing! :) ). Don't try to ruin someone's reputation just because you don't like a trivial thing that he said. Negative points should really be reserved for TRUE troublemakers.

(Yeah, I once had someone try to destroy my rep over an extremely trivial tidbit that had nothing to do with the thread topic.)

And give good rep points generously! If someone deserves it, sprinkle some pixie dust! :D

(BTW, is this thread in the right forum?)

Yes, but now they are quite long and tedious. Leaving newbies with a LOT of reading to do.. most of which is off topic. I only point this out because I got my first neg feedback... for being "lazy", of course.

 Well there is a fine welcome for you....

Well ducky, no one has ever asked for an FAQ before. Its shocking!

We havent figured out the complex mathimatical formula that steve uuses that bumps people, other than the more rep you have, the more you can dish out (or take away). Not everyone has the same guidelines as to when to dish out....

In short -

Green - Positive

Red - Negative

Blue/Grey - Neutral, or "Official Civil War era Reputation as commemorated by the Franklin Mint. Sign up now for 4 easy payments of $89.99"

Point taken, back into lurk mode with me.

No need, my friend. We like people who ask for FAQs.

Ohhhhh PM me. I was at AC last night and your british 'friend' was out drinking with one of our bartenders....
