What do you think would happen if...

That might have been true if you were only going to the 3 or 4 biggest headliners in every park and didn't arrive until long after rope drop, but it certainly didn't apply to the vast majority of attractions in the pre-Fastpass (pre-1999) era, when there were multiple attractions in each park that were literally walk-ons, all day long, even during school vacation weeks (which were the only weeks my family could ever visit).

I've been going nearly every year and some years multiple times since the 80's and I can tell ya we waited in line for attractions that were not headliners.

One idea that comes to my mind is that they would open up both lines and sides for Space Mountain again. That would at least feel more normal.

Prior to FP only one side of the line was accessible until you got to where the line split left or right.
I remember winning skip the line passes in the Adventureland treasure hunt and using it for Space Mountain and we went up the side that didn't have the stand by line and people from the stand by line would hop over and follow us and we told them they were not allowed and then when we got to the split they were forced to the end of the line lol.
So if you want to go back to those days you'll be waiting loner.

Those negative ones in the community would find another issue that inflames them to no end regarding how bad Disney operates the parks. Theres always has to be some topic to complain about that shows how bad it is now compared to back when. They will never run out of ways to express their dissatisfaction in how things are running and how they just know how to do it better if they were in charge. By the way... I'm not a FP+ fan.

I "lived" the old ways before fast pass at WDW. Everyone waited in line just like everyone else. We talked or played with the kids and we actually made it to the front of the line, LOL. We didn't know any better so everyone was equal. I don't remember any humungous lines for rides, but my memory is not what it used to be. I guess if you didn't want to wait in a busy line, you just went elsewhere and checked it out later if you wanted. I think it would be much better without fast passes complicating things, but I know I am in the minority. JMO.

I think that would honestly be a blessing.

I think it would actually drop wait tmes on some of the headliners because some people simply wouldn't wait for 2 hours. Before there was FP lines could be 2, 2 1/2 hours. I don't think Disney has really added to the attraction count since long ago. Some stuff has been replaced but I think the attraction count is about the same as 1990? I'm sure someone on here knows the answer to that? I don't mean meet and greets, the characters use to wander around MK not be at M+G's so those don't count.

How much has attendance increased since "before FP" ?

You would see the return of the Morning Marathons, as large groups of people would immediately run (or power walk) to the most popular attraction at rope drop.

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days!

lol, wait you mean to tell me there are actually more people in the park? I was always told that the parks aren't really crowded it's that disney is not staffing correctly to intentionally make longer wait times.

Well, it’s both. If daily attendance skyrocketed from 35k to 55k, Disney should ramp up staffing accordingly. Something tells me they haven’t done that, and I’m not sure if it’s to intentionally increase wait times - but it’s certainly to cut expenses.

I get your point that no its not that they are staffing less but rather that more people are coming.
However I do think that considering the 20k more than 25 years ago they should be hiring more people instead of sticking with the same number of CM's as 25 years ago.
And if they had more staff they could rangle the crowds easier.
Like at Space Mountain I wouldn't see so many people cutting in line because there would be a CM to actually speak to to say its happening and they could send them packing. Right now CM's are spread thin and are not in as many places through the lines as they used to be.

I think that more people would be coming up with a "disability" to get a DAS if they got rid of the FP. At least now, people feel like they can get onto 3 rides with minimum wait. If people had to wait and hour+ for every single ride, they would long for their FPs.

I dont know what you mean by having to be there when they opened the gates to use the paper kiosks. I dont think I have ever gone to Disney when they opened the gates. No matter what time you got to the park, you just went up to the kiosk and got your paper slip that told you to come back at a certain time. I doubt every person that plans two months out shows up for every ride. And I further doubt they bother to cancel their passes. There has to be a better way & maybe some day they will figure it out. I just know I'm not the only one tired of waiting in long lines. The younger theme park goers dont seem to mind. And as long as the parks are filled, I guess Disney doesnt mind either.
