I don't think naming it just 'Disney Studios' would be such a smart thing as it might create confusion with the actual Disney Studio in Hollywood.

:veryconfu I think you got it backwards!! By calling it Disney Hollywood Studios, the first thing that comes to mind is Hollywood (which is in California). It seems to be less confusing to call it Disney Studios, then there is no pre-conception of where it is located. You put the name Hollywood in there and you just have to think California. :hammer: IMHO

I think it deters from the fact of the original studios - an actual working studio. It is now as if they want to turn it into the Hollywood backlot part of DCA and have it become pixar-ified (though i do love pixar).

THey need to rethink their scheme and plan for the next 5 years and make sure this name will not deter from the original concept of a place where movie and disney magic come together...

I've been thinking about this along with the rest of you since the announcement. The only justification I can come up with for the new name (insertion of "Hollywood") is because of partnerships beyond Disney. In other words, with the Lucasfilm areas (Indiana Jones, Start Tours, Star Wars Weekends, etc.), as well as the Great Movie Ride, Disney wants to be able to wrap a name around it all that's logical. If they are planning to enhance "The park formerly known as MGM", then Hollywood may make sense.

I've read a lot of rumor & fact threads talking about Star Tours 2.0, a possible Indiana Jones ride, permanent stages for the Jedi Knight training, etc. Since these are non Disney, but have a tie-in through Hollywood, it makes sense to me. I realize that filming is done globally and the concept of Hollywood is Cali-centric as I too thin Cali when they say Hollywood. But I think the big approach is to tip the hat to the epicenter of movie/television/animation studios in general.

Could work well. In all honesty, I'm going to miss the old Hollywood we've known of the "MGM" era.

ehhhhh whatever. As long as they do some stuff to actually make the park better they could call it "Big Slab of Concrete with Giant Mickey Hat" for all I care.

I do think, however, if they are going to keep the "Studios" word in the name maybe they should revamp and refresh: The Backlot Studio Tour, The Great Movie Ride, The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and the former Animation studio area.

I realize it is a theme park with rides but they really have negleted the "Studio" aspect.
