  • His rude post was directed at all forum members in general, ie a vent about how some take things way too seriously, versus a post directed at/arguing with/insulting a specific poster. Some of the others in the thread were just off topic, while others were just continuing the argument. Using the quote feature is a way of directing a response at one specific person.

    Of course, sometimes I miss a post now and then, especially when an argument starts, no one reports it, and I then have to wade through the entire thread to edit it.

    I don't know if this answers your question, but the short answer is you did nothing wrong, but were just involved in an argument that I ended by deleting all posts associated with it. Had you just said something like "There are some rude pots around here who go around calling the kettles black" without a quote it would have stood. Just for future reference. ;)
