This is our fourth trip to the world in last five years... My question is do you get a new magic band every time or at some point do you just say man I really dont need another one of these

We have stopped getting new ones, but only because my kids have their Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom progress on their magic bands. I assume my DH and I could get new ones, but the old ones are linked to the kids (as their parent supervisors), so I don't want to risk messing anything up :)

Always get new ones. They should only have about a two year battery life. And I've noticed the really old ones get a bit discolored.

This is very true. We always did get new bands every year and noticed they reached about 2-3 yrs old they started to get a white residue on them that does not come of with just soap and water. Plus it's a neat, not to mention free, collectable.

Get new ones everytime. This next trip, we aren't staying on site but I wanted a new magic band for my tickets, so I bought the brand new black Magic Band 2.0.

Didn't really need to since I could have just activated one of my old ones but I really wanted that one:cautious:

We always get them, this year we are getting three each. We get a different saying on them each time. It is now one of our traditions to come up with a new theme for a name.

We get new ones delivered and we usually see a MB hanging on a display that is decorated with a character or scene which we want so Disney makes their extra money on us.

Nope, I get one to put in the keeper and one spare for pool. I swap out bands when I know the battery is dead so the long range function works.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Today in fact, for the first time ever, I declined a new band. I currently have 5 active bands and 2 cards.

As a Canadian, they don’t ship to us, and this year it won’t be convenient to stop at the resort first. We’re flying in a day early, so now we can go straight from our crap hotel to Epcot, to CSR later in the afternoon.

Our room will not be ready at 9:00 am anyway, so there’s really no benefit to going there first. I can grab a coffee in the park. 🙂

C'mon!!! Every one complains that Disney is nickle and dime-ing us to death and they want to give you something for free and you're not taking them?? But as had been said, the batteries don't last forever and they do loosen up after repeated uses.

Wish we could. They won’t ship to the UK.

Anything short range (anything you tap on) should work for years. Anything long range (on board video, photos with no post-ride tap) will need fresh batteries or band.

A few of my family have collectible bands (teacups for me, Dumbo for one of my daughters, I think my oldest son has a 45th anniversary version). We were dissapointed to find out the batteries could not be replaced. I espcially like how some of the collectible bands will make special noises and lights at the magicband poles. However, like another person said above, we'll just hang these on our christmas tree when they die and get new ones. Maybe we'll make a chain out of them!

If you don't pre-order, you get plain gray bands at resort check-in. If you pre-order, you get a choice of colors. I will probably order new ones for the next trip. Most of us have boring gray right now.

Personally, I've declined most of them. Still though they have that set of plain grey ones waiting for me when I check in. I have no idea why...but I usually say "thank you" and accept them.

So now I have 1 red, 1 orange, 1 green, 1 blue......and 47 grey.
Next time, ask if they have them in "go-away green" and you can match the Skyliner tower color scheme.
