What do you do in WDW when it rains all day?

i either stay at a park, or go shopping, or hang out in the room, or go see a movie, or hang out in the game room, or sleep, it depends.

As an overly-neurotic type, I'm prepared for rain at Disney. We've always got ponchos in our back pockets and emergency socks and shoes in the trunk for the ride home. We splash around and enjoy the diminished crowds.

Get a baseball hat to cover your head, grab a poncho - bring extra socks or towels to dry your feet (for us Croc people) and go to the parks! You can easily hide inside different attractions (especially at Epcot) - or in Magic Kingdom - you can basically run from place to place and barely get wet (especially in Tomorrowland). If it is truly pouring hurricane strength - most of the Disney resorts have activities right at the main buildings, so you can take advantage of those as well.

You know, I used to say the same thing. My experience with rain at WDW was that there was going to be a shower or thunderstorm pretty much every afternoon. You put on your ponchos and keep going. Lines are down - the rain will stop soon.

Then we went for three days this April. I think it stopped Friday night long enough to get in the Pirates event and Sunday morn. long enough for us to do the Keys tour. Other than that . . . driving, pouring, drenching rain. Ponchos were pointless after about 30 minutes. I think they kept me dry from mid-chest to belt. We troopered on; after all, we'd paid to be there. On Sunday night there was EMH at DHS; till 1:00 I think. We gave up at nine. We were just so tired of slogging around in wet shoes and socks, rain blowing in our faces. We bought some popcorn (wasn't soggy!) and chocolate topped rice crispy mickey heads and sat in bed watching TV.

All in all, we still had fun. Definitely a memorable experience.

Especially the morning that it let up briefly and we were making our way to the Land. Loudest thunder clap I ever heard. You know, the kind that you see the flash and hear the thunder simultaneously? Everyone yelled and ducked and you could smell the ozone. It took me a while to completely get my hearing back. Went on the Land boat and the rain came . . . the green houses were leaking and it was raining so hard we couldn't even hear the spiel. Like I said, memorable!

Nothing stops us. We just poncho and move on. Be it sweat, rain or Splash or Kali, you're going to get wet at WDW, that is a given.

We had just come off Space Mountain when a storm hit us. People ran for shelters and such but we just went back onto SM. There was hardly any queue. But then the rides started to stop letting people on and the Staff were telling everyone to get under shelter. There was no point trying to get a bus coz the queue were probably so big it would take longer than just waiting for it to stop.

After about half hour of standing under shelter [even though we would rather have just strolled around the park] it started to stop and most rides started going again. It was some of the best rain i've ever been in though! It was up to our ankles in about 5 minutes. Then everything suddenly cleared. We don't get that sort of rain here =[

Then an hour later we'd done everything we wanted to in MK and went to the bus stop and there was still people waiting that had been waiting since the rain started. So we went and got the Monorail to Epcot and spent the rest of the afternoon there :D

After the rain hardly anyone was in the parks, even when it was only damp a couple of hours later.

Keep on going, a bit of rain wouldn't stop me. If your at MK then ride Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids in for in DAK. If your in Epcot then ride Ellens Energy adventure - that gives plenty of time for the rain to die down!

I'm not sure how the rain affects the nighttime shows. The one time I've been to WDW and it has rainined during the evening the crowds were very small and we got a great spot for illumiNations. Sadly, it stopped raining just before the show and people started leaving the safety of shops and started swarming for a good viewing location - things got a little crowded then.

I love the majority of peoples attitudes here! If it rains...and last summer it rained at least once a day in Aug...and im talking pouring rain, like you cant see across the walkway its raining so hard...you SUCK IT UP and keep on goin! sport the poncho and take advantage of those wimps that are huddled under shelter and get some quality ride time in! If your that worried bring an extra tshirt and shorts in your backpack. But why waste time, a little water never hurt anyone!

Carry on as usual, bringing a change of socks (perhaps clothes depending on how hard it is raining) and a poncho. Also making sure my shirt won't become see through when it's soaked!

If it's raining cats and dogs it's a good time to enjoy Kali or splash, because hey, you're already wet!

Seriously. I LOVE the rain. I love that it drives other people out and cools the parks down so I can just go and go and go.

When we went in April one year it rained the whole week we were there. It got to the poin where we would put on our ponchoses when we got dressed in the morning. It was fun though, and a good excuse to buy some new shoes.

Does anyone else have a poncho collection because you forget to pack the ones you already have? I think I have about a dozen or so. :)

I still have a yellow, Mickey Mouse poncho, from our 1992 trip. It really rained our very first day on vacation, but it was great. We came to the Magic Kingdom first thing walked down Main Street, turned left and ran right into Mickey Mouse. My son and nieces were between 3 & 5 at the time and I think it made their whole trip. Fun things happen in the rain.

we always pack our ponchos. Just throw them on and go out to the parks anyways it will be way less crowded. Almost all the rides will operate. I remember once when I was younger my mother and I were in line for Thunder Mountain and it was just drizzling as we got up to the front we heard howdy folks its down pouring out so you may get soaked! And boy did we ever but it was so much fun.

Some of the best times I've had at WDW were on days it rained all day. On days like that, the rain usually isn't heavy, just continuous gentle rain.

One time was in the early evening at Epcot, on the very first day that Tapestry of Nations ever ran (technically, I think it was the first preview running, an the official "opening" was a few days later). It was in October. There was a steady drizzle, but it was not too cold. We started with ponchos, but they were a bit too confining and made us sweat, so we just took them off and danced in the rain with the big tall stick figures. Camera crews were out filming for promotional footage, and they filmed my then 6 yo daughter a lot, because she was just really adorable dancing around in the rain (EIIDSSM). It's probably my fondest WDW memory. The rain let up enough to show Illuminations ROE, which blew us away (it was our first time).

Another time I'm reminded of (and I know the OP asked about "rains all day" and so this is a bit OT) was when we rode Splash the first time. It was a beautiful sunny day when we went on and rode the outside part. When we were on the inside part, a huge storm came over, and when we got to the drop, we thought that the downpour was some kind of effect! It wasn't until after a few seconds after we hit the bottom that we realized that it was pouring (remember - it was the first time ever that we rode)! We bought ponchos and walked around in them for a while, but the storm didn't last long. A lot of people left and the rest of the day was a pleasure because of the short lines.

One last comment: I find that wearing lightweight wool socks helps if it rains. They don't hold the water much and dry very quickly. I wear them with every kind of footwear, and even if your shoes are wet, the wool socks makes it more comfortable. Once cotton socks get even a little wet, it is very uncomfortable, they'll never dry, and could cause serious blistering.

P.S., one day when it was raining all day, it was way too hot for ponchos, we just put them away and walked in the rain. Oddly, we put our ponchos on when we went inside because we needed them to keep warm in the air conditioning with soaking wet clothes! We had a great time, though!
