What Do You Do During WDW Downtime?

What do you do during your downtime at WDW?
That is, when you are not visiting the parks.
Do you even make room in your schedule for downtime? (this has been my downfall in the past - not enough downtime)

Well, the obvious Downtown Disney, Boardwalk, swimming, and then rental activities/parasailing on Bay Lake, don't forget mini golf! Touring the Disney resorts is both neat and free! :)

our go of it, is to usually hit the parks in the morning, then when it starts to hit the early afternoon, we'll usually leave to do 1 of 3 things:

1) relax in the room
2) hit the pool
3) hit one of the water parks

We actually book "non park time" into our plans whenever we book a trip but the way we spend it can vary based on what we're in the mood to do. To that end, our "non park time" plans are rarely if ever spelled out. Here are the things we tend to fill that time with (or have thought about):
  • Shopping downtown (a must every trip but when we do it is rarely planned)
  • Renting a surry bike and riding around a resort (a favorite)
  • Renting paddle boats at a resort
  • Mini Golf
  • Disney Quest
  • Hit the resort arcade
  • Hit the pool
  • Hit the playground
  • Take a carriage ride

At the end of the day, a vacation with some relax time always works out better than commando style go-go-go. You don't really miss that you couldn't do attraction X this time, or not ride attraction Y for your fifth time. But you do miss not having spend some quality downtime.

My two main downtime activities are hanging by the pool, and taking a little boat trip on some lake or river. Just hanging out somewhere, relaxing a bit, works wonders for your temperament and general sense of 'zen' (for want of a better word). And it seriously improves group/family relations, serving to prevent stress from building up and irritations taking over.

I love just hanging out by the pool.

I also enjoy going to visit the various resorts that I am not staying at that trip. Just to see what is new.

We need time for things to happen.
WDW + Downtime = does not compute..does not compute....Usually when I get back from my trips to WDW I need a serious vacation;)

In all sersiousness, We've always enjoyed our TS dinners in the evening as time to unwind relax and eat an delicious meal and talk about the day's awesomsness.
However I will admit we've slowed down a bit over the last 2 years and we take breaks right after lunch, swim and chill by the pool. We even threw in a couple of hours of resort hopping last year. :)

I'm with you pal... 11 days was a long trip, but honestly I needed every minute of the trip. We're a spring family so nothing we see in March compared to MK in July. The rest of the gates weren't awful, but MK was simply mind boggling busy.

We tried DTD, it was alright.... we had dinner and saw Brave. I hate doing "non WDW" things because I have malls at home, I have movie theatres at home, mini golf at home.

We too use TS meals as a way to relax, cool down, and escape. A round of golf on one of the courses is always lovely. If I do a long trip (a week or more) I build-in at least one if not two days, just for whatever may come up, we do whatever we want for those days and keep it flexible so we never feel like we missed anything.

I take a lot of naps, other than naps we go to the pool and the outlets are a must for us. Sometimes, if we just need a break from magic we'll take a ride to wal mart or target and just gather anything we need. We'll also just go for a ride along I4, stop at Dippin Dots or Denny's and then head home.

Downtown Disney is big for us! Along with drinks by the pool and listening to Elliot Dyson perform in POFQ,wed -friday evenings! Napping is huge for us! We stay at the parks late!

We are going for nine days this time and one day is built into our schedule just to chill!! We have a seven year old and a six month old this time. We will be on their time instead of our time like I am use to:rolleyes:

You can take in the EWP. It's not something I'd make a trip to see, but if you are at the hotel, anyway, it's fun.

Yup....sounds too familiar. We are pretty much hit the ground running, commando WDW vacationers but have managed to squeeze in a few down time'ish activities in the last couple years. Since we've taken my niece the last few years, she likes when we rent a pontoon boat. We enjoy an evening at Downtown Disney, having dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express and doing a good bit of our shopping. If we have dinner at a resort other than our own, we'll tour the resort and it's shops. Normally we will have a cocktail or two on the balcony before we head out for dinner.
