What DL rides should a pregnant woman NOT ride?

My wife and I are likely going to hit California in September. There is a chance she could be 2 months pregnant (maximum) at that time according to our plans. Or maybe not at all which would make this point moot. But if she is, which rides at Disneyland and California Adventure would be off limits for her?

Looking at the Disney website I saw Splash, Space, Thunder and the Matterhorn to be not recommended for pregnant women. Plus the Indiana Jones ride which we don't have at Disney World. But is there anything else? I know stuff like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Mr. Toad, Small World, Peter Pan etc. will be fine but am I missing ones that aren't?

Also other than California Screamin' at DCA what else is off limits for a pregnant woman in her early stages?

And would there be a lot at Universal Hollywood?
(we won't be doing Knott's Berry or Magic Mountain)

At USH off the top of my head I'd say Mummy, and possibly Jurassic Park and Simpsons.

I don't have much to add, other than Disney does make it pretty easy- the signs are clear and you can check before you get in line. I was pregnant my first trip and had no problems figuring out what was off limits and what was OK.

Good luck to you!!! :sohappy:

Thanks. So I am assuming you went on the Fantasyland-type rides and saw all the shows and were okay, correct? You could be 9 month prego and ride Dumbo but since it'll be two months maximum for my wife I assume we'd have to be a little cautious with some of the rides in the fist trifecta of pregnancy

Yes, no problems at all. :) See what your doctor says, but it seems like Disney's warnings are pretty universal. They're going to err on the side of caution as far as the safety of the baby goes, but motion sickness might be another matter :lookaroun

If she is feeling ill she might want to avoid Soarin' -- and of course, no teacups

I went to WDW this past March and I was 3 months pregnant. I rode every single ride with no problems. I asked my doctor before going and she said that the warnings are more for pregnant woman who are furthur along. At 2 months pregnant the baby is only the size of a kidney bean. I wouldnt say go on everything if she is worried about it, and definitely check with your own doctor, but for me, I went on it all, and had a fabulous time doing so!!!

Wow. Yeah I mean it might be a moot point if she isn't pregnant. She did Splash Mountain, Thunder at WDW (she won't do Space). So if we (or she) misses that at Disneyland it won't be a big deal. I was hoping the Matterhorn and Indiana Jones she could try. And yeah, we did the Mad Tea Party, even if she isn't pregnant I don't think she is doing that again, lol.

Just a thought here, wouldn't the amount of pressure of a drop like Splash or twists and turns like Thunder put an early pregnancy at great risk?

The only risk posed to pregnant women on rides is placental abruption, which is a very rare thing that can happen in the THIRD TRIMESTER, and is pretty much unheard of in the 1st trimester.

Therefore, it is in my fact-based OPINION that ANY ride would be safe for someone who is 8 weeks along.

However, if she went to Disneyland and rode everything while 8 weeks pregnant, then God forbid something went wrong later in the pregnancy (though it would almost certainly not be related to the Disneyland trip) she'd end up tying the 2 things together, and probably never forgive herself. For that reason, I'd recommend a common sense approach.

When I took a Disney trip pregnant, I simply avoided rides I felt were more jarring than an average car ride. For example, I rode Splash Mountain, but did not ride Space Mountain.

Someone pointed out to me that since i was flying to WDW the planes take off would have way more force than the drop on splash, and the only thing on thunder that I worried about was possiby hitting my stomach on the lap bar, but I just held on the whole time instead of letting myself fly all over the place like I usually would! I went on Dinosaur (same ride as Indiana) and also just held on to the bar extra tight. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and this baby is still healthy as can be! I do agree though, that if she did go on everything, and god forbid something happened to the baby later in the pregnancy, she may blame herself and think that rides affected it. I do think that as long as your doctor were to ok it that it really is just a personal choice!

Okay thank you everyone, we shall see. The Disneyland trip is not 100% yet and her being pregnant is not a lock either. Maybe we'll take a pregnancy test the night before going to DL :king:
