What are the "don't miss" things at WDW?

I'd like to know what is the draw with Buzz Lightyear and TSMM? I am not a big Toy Story fan but why do people keep raving about these two attractions. They sound similar to me? I've always skipped them in favor of more thrilling rides (the three mountains, ToT, RnRC)

They're a draw to many, thrill seekers or not. It's like a carnival game in a ride. I enjoy Buzz more than TSMM although the queue for TSMM is better. I'd recommend trying them once time so you at least know what you're giving up in favor of those thrill rides. :)

This November is my 6th year in a row. Every year I go I always can find something new and different! My list would be endless as far as what not to miss....but I'll give you my ultimate faves for each park be it a ride or special event as follows:

Magic Kingdom: My first day entering the park my "don't miss" is the very first photo I take of Cinderella's Castle! Brings joy and tears every time! What can I say..I 'm a sap :) Pirate's of the Carribean is a MUST for me as I'm usually trying to track down Captain Jack Sparrow (alas..to date Johnny Depp still has not returned my calls lol :D) Haunted Mansion and Hall of Presidents.

Epcot: Spaceship Earth of course! Walking alllll the way around World Showcase and soaking it all in And Myuki the Candy Lady over by Japan. She is amazing! Drum and Fife Corp by American Adventure and Illuminations.

Disney Hollywood Studios: Hands down - Osborne Lights. Talk about awe inspiring! Of course it only runs over the holidays but nothing like 5,000,000 dancing twinkling lights, blaring Manheim Steamroller and 30 snow machines....gotta love it! Ride wise - Rock N Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror.

Animal Kingdom - I love the 2 shows there.....Festival of the Lion King is amazing! And Finding Nemo. The music in both is just wonderful and magnificent. Ride wise Expedition Everest. I've been known to ride it 5x in a row.....after that, I'm done! lol

Other than that over the holidays I try and make an attempt to get to the Grand Floridian. The tree in the main lobby is unbelievable and the life size Gingerbread house spectacular!

I hope this helps :D

Opinions will vary.

I'd suggest re-doing some of your favorites and working the things you haven't tried, too. :)
This the best advice.... and exactly what we do. Most of our *must do* things are basically tradition to us. (Illuminations, Poly beach Wishes, searaycers, certain restaurants) Along with some new experiences. (looking forward to Splitsville this year, and the New Fantasyland)

Celebrate the Magic
Maelstrom
One Man's Dream

...just to name a few.

At Magic Kingdom, must-dos include:
  1. Splash Mountain
  2. Big Thunder Mountain
  3. Space Mountain if you don't mind jerky rides
  4. Mickey's Philharmagic
  5. Dumbo the Elephant
  6. Pirates of the Caribbean
  7. Haunted Mansion
  8. Country Bear Jamboree if you're into that sort of thing
  9. New Fantasyland if you haven't been yet
  10. Main Street Electrical Parade
  11. Celebrate the Magic
  12. Wishes

Your #1 priority before doing anything else at the Magic Kingdom is this :

Aquire and consume at least ONE Pineapple Float ( aka 'Dole Whip' ).

Once you have accomplished this, consider yourself now ready to explore the Park..with said drink in hand.

Must do experiences ( once drink is finished ) :

Pirates of the Caribbean
Haunted Mansion
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Country Bear Jamboree
The Enchanted Tiki Room
Splash Mountain
It's a Small World
Space Mountain
Carousel of Progress

Watch the afternoon Parade
See the Evening Parade
See the nightly fireworks

Get a lot of sleep later on to do it all again the next day.

:)

This is exactly the same thing we do when we go to MK!!! All great Disney minds think alike...LOL :)

They are similar. I've ridden both several times and I can never remember which one is which and the one in HS seems to always have a longer line. I don't understand why they have 2 Toy Story rides. And in my opinion, the new Mermaid ride is the same as the Nemo ride at Epcot.

To me
Magic Kingdom:
The three mountains (thunder Splash Space)
Its a small world
Any fantasyland Darkride their all nicely done even though they're simplistic by today's standards.
Haunted Mansion
Pirates of the Caribbean

Secondary but still good:
Jungle Cruise
Dumbo
Astro Orbiter
Buzz Lightyear
Peoplemover

Shows:
Country Bear Jamboree
Tiki Room
(I have not seen Philharmagic but I hear its good)

EPCOT (my personal favorite park or was)
Test Track
Mission Space (Although Im conflicted on the ride you should expirience it)
Soarin' (I like soarin')
Maelstrom (an old fav of mine)
Spaceship Earth

Secondary But Still Good:
Mexico Pavillion
Livin' With The land (If plants are your thing lol)

I don't really like:
The new Seas with nemo (excluding Turtle Talk): Its really just a collection of screens you could remake the ride at home if you had enough tvs and got a hold of the ride's video.
The New Imagination Ride: Its just ok. Unless you know figment before hand and just want to see him again, its more of a "what is this?"

Shows:
IllumiNations: consistantly good for all its years.
Captain EO: Maybe I'm nostalgic but I loved the wonderful 80s-ness of this ride.

Hollywood:
Tower of Terror: Beautifully done, a fine example of "how did they do that?" Imagineering
Rockin'Rollercoaster: Yes its light on theming but if you like thrills or rock music or classic cars give it ago, its actually pretty fun.
Star Tours
Toy Story Mania

Secondary but still good:
Backlot tour (may as well see it before it goes)
Great Movie Ride

Shows:
Fantasmic!!! (best show at the resort imo well other than illuminations)
Muppetvision 3-D (see it before it goes)
Indiana Jones (same as above)

Animal Kingdom:
Everest
Dinosaur!
The (oh boy spell guessing time) Killomanjaro (sp?) Safari
(if you like to get wet) The Kali Rapids ride

Secondary but still good:
Honestly I don't remember much else about this park recently. I guess Primeval Whirl if you like wild mouse coasters but its not much that you can't find at six flags who's new england park has a better version of this.

Shows: Pretty much any animal show is nice, check out the bugs life one if you like 4-d shows and arent terrified of bugs. Festival is great.
