For those of you that drive what are some of the games that you play that help the drive go faster. Also for anyone that lives between va and disney what are some sites that you would recommend that we might be able to stop at and see on the way down that are not that far off 95 if any. We have done SOTB many times.

Twenty questions!! You think of a person and people get to ask you twenty questions about the person, living or dead, politician, actor, etc. They have to guess in twenty questions.

We are driving, but not the whole thing at once. We both have family in NC, so we will do the 8 hours down and stop for a few days before heading the rest of the way and then do the same thing on the way back. Anyway, if you are talking traveling with kids and helping the ride go faster for them, I am a huge fan of a portable DVD player. We don't have one in the car normally - just for long trips, so it is a treat. I usually let my son pick one or two movies he wants and then find one he never saw. We usually drive for an hour or so, then we will put on a movie. By the time that is over, it is usually almost time to stop for gas and lunch, so we try to fond a McDonald's playland or a playground for a picnic.. He usually plays and takes a few bites while we eat to get the energy out and then will finish once we get back in the car while watching another movie. I usually keep a supply of crayons and books on hand too along with his little computer that has games on it. Oh, and he will usually take a nap after eating! I am so thankful that he is 4.5 and still naps!

I usually save up some books and magazines to read on the road. Leave the school books and work at home. Have a few new movies to watch on the portable DVD player. But since there are two of use, we take turns driving so we keep busy.

We are also from Virginia and about half way down we stop in South Carolina overnight. On our trip this past February, we made a brief stop in Daytona Beach, to see the ocean. It was a beautiful day and the sun felt wonderful after having left the cold and ice behind just the day before! We have a number of Disney World CDs we listen to with theme park music. We always stop at the Florida Welcome Center for a cup of fresh orange juice and some Disney literature.

Next trip: January 2009 :)

On the way down- we play some of the games that they played on "Whose line is it anyway" with Drew Carey. Our favorite is the one where you have a scenario and each person starts with the next consecutive letter. ie: A bear is in the woods. Bears aren't in VA. Call that bear over and let them know, etc.... Also there's the one where you use ABC order and only ask questions - with a theme. They have many singing games they do as well- where each person does a line. (We were shocked by how well my then 8 year old niece did with these games!)

Sometimes we play spot the UPS trucks - as DH works for them. (He doesn't really like that game!)

When we first leave Disney- to help with out feeling of sadness- we play the "what's new" game. We go round robin and each say something new we experienced at WDW. We're always amazed at what we come up with.
ie: played a game in the gift shop at BC, etc......

A game that I liked playing as a kid was Find the License Plate. The goal was to be the person who could find the most state license plates. It kept us occupied looking out the car and keeping lists of what each of us found. We did get bonus points for Alaska and Hawaii.

^ I would recommend the license plate game too.

decks of cards are invaluable, so many game possibilities (bring 4 decks)

Game boys or personal gaming systems

books/music/word searches

Also the rhyming game is good, someone says a word (example blue) and then each person has to say a word that rhymes until someone can't then they lose
(example, start: blue, then shoe, glue, hue, ect)

The alphabet/category game is fun too. Pick a catergory (example fruit) then you have to come up with something starting with A-Z (first person:apple second person:banana third person:cantaloupe, etc)

we drove everywhere as kids (including to FL each spring break from Ohio) and this was before in car tv/vcr/dvd players.
