We have a "Month of Disney" before our trip. Each night for 31 days before the trip we eat one Disney inspired dinner, play one Disney inspired game, and watch something Disney on TV (Modern Marvels: WDW, Disney on a Dime, etc... or some Disney movie.)

That sounds awesome! Any examples?

Disney games!!!

My cousins and I play Disney Apples to Apples and Disney Headbandz. That always puts us in a mood for Disney and it gets us talking about all the stuff we are going to do on the trip. It's great family time as well.

1 Go on Google earth and take little 3D tour of the parks and Hotels (especially the one we are staying that trip)
2 start listening to park music (mostly Epcot Entrance Loop)
3 Listen to Lou Mongello's Audio Guides To WDW
4 Start watching all TiVo'd Disney specials and old vintage movies of the parks from the 80's
5 Load these movies onto my ipad for the plane trip
6 bite nails incessantly until I am there. (bad habit)

We like to watch the planning videos, disney park specials (taped from t.v.), Disney movies, check out the maps and planning guides (even though we have seen them many times), and we look around town and pic up Disney themed items that we will put in gift bags for our friends that are joining us just to give them a little something to make their trip even more special.

I have ours completed around two weeks after each trip, for the next trip.

When we go home, we always say "Pity we didn't get round to seeing...(whatever)", simply because there isn't enough time to see everything in the time we are there. So we go home with some sketch-book ideas of what to do next.

But we always leave detailed planning until nearly the time because we spend a lot of time on a lot of sites to see what is worth visiting, what to avoid, what is new and what we learned from last time. Also we scale in how much money we have to spend and how far we wish to travel. Our time in WDW usually end up as 12 full days, usually 8 of which are fully booked and programmed in. A few days are "Ad-Hoc" loose days, just to decide on the day. The wife has her shopping day and there is a contingency day in case weather gets bad. We also include a few 1/2 days for laundry, local shopping for supplies and whatever. We plan evenings as well, including sit-down meals, visits to bars, a bit of night-life, a few ad-hoc unplanned nights to decide on the day and fit in Magic Hours.

Maybe this is a little much for some people, but it has saved us a LOT of holiday time messing around trying to decide what to do and it also allows us to know what to pack in advance.

Not only that, planning it is fun.

I always go to The Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago.. IMO it has that Epcot-ish feel..So I will be going back there the day before and BONUS! I just found out that Disney on Ice: Rockin Ever After will be here in Chicago the week before I go..This is too good to be true!:D
