Finally went to D-land last friday. Pretty dissapointing. while I loved the architecture and history, overall the place can't touch WDW. The teacups don't even spin! Argh!

Pirates and the Tiki room are the only rides that kick WDW's butt (other than stuff not in WDW, like Matterhorn and Alice).

Oh well, glad I went nonetheless.

In all fairness, you picked a BAD time to visit, with Big Thunder, Space Mountain, and Indy all down for refurb, and Believe not up and running for the summer yet. The Teacups don't spin, which I agree es me off - however if you'll read recent threads, you'll know that this is a very recent development, and one that gets many, many complaints.

See - I've been to both and appericiate both resorts for what they are. I'm a Disneyland freak, but I go to WDW once a year anyway. I feel that you can't really compare the two. It's apples and oranges really. Look at the environment Disneyland has to deal with. It's right in the middle of a bustling city! Where as Disneyworld is an attraction in and of it's own right (something Disneyland is just working to come into). Both are coming along splendidly, but I agree with the others. If you are going to make comparisons, compare them on equal footing, when everything is open at least. And realize what Walt had to deal with. His budget was far smaller and he was taking a huge risk in building Disneyland. I'm glad you appericiate the history there! :) You could only compare DisneyLAND to the Magic Kingdom. You can't really compare the DCA to anything, becuase there is no other park like it in FL (though it has some MGM qualities, it's only one small area of that park). Of course Disneyworld will "feel" better. There is more room to move, and extra parks like MGM, EPCOT, and the AK. It attracts a different audience (less locals, more out of state vacationers). Disneyworld is bigger for one. Disneyland is running out of room to expand so they had to squeeze a lot into a little space.
Alright I'm off my soap box now.

For the record, I agree 100% that WDW blows DL completely out of the water. And that's true regardless of how you want to compare them (i.e. WDW compared to DLR, MK compared to DL, etc.). I've also never agreed with the "you really can't compare them" argument. As a matter of fact, I've never understood where people get that. OF COURSE you can compare them! To me, that's just a cop out and it's admitting that they agree with you without ACTUALLY admitting that they agree with you.

Having said that, I do have to also concur that you didn't exactly catch DL at it's best. For starters, Space Mountain is closed. And that is probably the one attraction that blows it's WDW counterpart away more than any other. The Florida version has always seemed to me like an old, clunky roller coaster, where the DL version is much more sleek and smooth, and SEEMS faster. I also wonder if you happened to ride DL's Haunted Mansion. I personally consider it superior to the WDW version both inside and out. Also, Fantasmic! at DL is much better than the Florida version. And while I never used to feel this way, I actually consider the CMs at DL to be overall better and friendlier than the ones in WDW typically. Lastly, you're experiencing DL in the post-Cynthia Harriss era and I don't know that the park has fully recovered yet from the destruction she caused it.

So while I'd still choose WDW over DL any day of the week and twice on Sunday, I would also advise you to give it a second chance in another year or so.

Yes, I agree that it's not DW, but DL has it's charms. I was a little surprised at how the park was a little smaller in comparison, but I agree with the other posters that you may have chosen the wrong time to go. I think if you give it another chance when all rides are running that you might enjoy it for what it is.

Well, here's my view. Disneyland Park beats out the Magic Kingdom hands down. Walt Disney World Resort beats out Disneyland Resort.

There is sooooo much more to do in Disneyland Park then at the Magic Kingdom, it's not even funny. Take a look at the "specifics" each park has. Note that if there is a comparable item (IE: Goofy's Barnstormer vs. Gadget's Go Coaster) I have omitted it from the list below.

Disneyland Park:
-Matterhorn
-Casey Jr. Circus Train
-Storybookland Canal Boats
-Alice in Wonderland
-Pinocchio's Daring Journey
-Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
-Roger Rabbit's Car-toon Spin
-Jolley Trolley
-Goofy's Bounce House
-Chip & Dale's Treehouse
-Star Tours
-Autopia (Much better then the Indy Speedway)
-Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
-Innoventions
-Monorail
-Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
-Indiana Jones Adventure
-Pirates of the Caribbean (Much better then MK's)
-Enchanted Tiki Room (Much better then MK's)
-Fantasmic!
-Sailing Ship Columbia
-Disneyland Railroad (Much better then MK's)

Magic Kingdom:
-Cinderella Castle (Much better the DLP's)
-Mickey's PhilharMagic
-Tomorrowland Transit Authority
-Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
-Timekeeper
-Hall of Presidents
-Country Bear Jamboree
-Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress
-The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Well, I think that sums up that Disneyland Park is better in terms of what it has to offer. :)

I don't think it "sums it up" at all. That is, unless you mean it literally when you say "summing" it up. I suppose it all depends on the criteria one uses to determine which is better. Your criteria appears to be based on which park has more attractions to list. To me, following that logic would make Six Flags and Busch Gardens better parks than ANY of the Disney parks since those tend to have a lot more attractions. I personally prefer to base it on quality versus quantity. Most of the attractions you listed (such as Jolly Trolley, for example) certainly aren't ones that make DL better.

But you can't compare WDW to DL. A four theme park resort with a single theme park. I just assume when people compare WDW to DL, they actually mean the MK or DLR.

OF COURSE you can! You can compare anything you want to compare. If somebody says to me, "What do you like better, New York City or Disneyland?", I can certainly compare the two and decide which I like better. I can compare anything I want. Even when people say, "You can't compare apples to oranges", they're just misquoting an age-old adage. That old saying, "Making and apple to apple comparison", simply refers to making a comparison between two things that are generally similar by using the same criteria (as opposed to making an "apple to orange" comparison). The saying was never meant to imply that you CAN'T compare apples to oranges. But people quote it that way whenever they know their side of the debate is weak. Certainly you can compare apples to oranges! Why can't you? So why would it be any different comparing WDW to DL? I understand if someone wants to clarify exactly HOW they're comparing them (i.e. MK compared to DL or WDW compared to DLR or WDW compared to DL, etc), but when they say you CAN'T compare them, I'm sorry but that just sounds like a cop out to me.

I belive it's all depends on which park you went too first. I grew up going to WDW and a friend of mine grew up going to DL. To this day he still loves DL more than WDW. (I have yet to make it out to DL but I'm going Oct of 2005:sohappy: )

Actually, I grew up on DL and couldn't imagine that anything could be better...Until I went to WDW! I was in my mid-20's when I went for the very first time and I was absolutely blown away. For me, it's difficult to imagine someone growing up on WDW and then being blown away by DL. I think that most people who have been to both and still prefer DL do so for sentimental and nostalgic reasons. I say this because they always give reasons like, "It's the ORIGINAL" and "Walt worked on it personally". Truth is, being the original doesn't necessarily make something better. And as far as the "Walt" factor, most of Walt's touch is sadly gone from DL these days. I personally see much more of Walt's spirit in WDW anyway. I think if someone went to both MK and DL and they didn't know any of the historical background, there would be no contest between the two.

Even without considering the historical background of DL, I still like it better. I like the atmosphere of DL a lot more and I prefer most versions of rides at DL. I like the Disneyland exclusive rides better than the MK exclusive rides (with the exception of TTA). To me, the only thing MK has is a larger castle and a much better Splash Mountain.

Not fair because you're comparing four parks to one park.

Once again, though, we're making it about numbers rather than quality. If the four parks were Six Flags caliber, wouldn't you agree that it would be fair to say DL (the park alone) was better than those four parks combined? WDW is better not just because it has MORE but because it has more QUALITY.
