New road access to Disney to open

Western Way, the new rear entrance to Walt Disney World from the new Western Beltway expressway, is set to open April 4.

The four-lane, divided boulevard will give Disney a western entrance for the first time, allowing tourists coming in via Interstate 75 to enter Central Florida on Florida's Turnpike and the Western Beltway (State Road 429), then enter Disney without ever entering Orlando or driving on Interstate 4.

The Western Beltway opened between Winter Garden and U.S. Highway 192 in Osceola County in December.

The new Disney road will come off the expressway at an interchange built by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise near Hartzog Road. Western Way will go east into Disney property, then turn south and connect with West Buena Vista Drive not far from Blizzard Beach and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise expects to erect signs on the turnpike and State Road 429 directing people along the new route to Disney, turnpike spokeswoman Christa Deason said. Disney also is expected to do some advertising of the new route.

This is going to create a traffic nightmare on the road in front of Coronado Springs. We were there three weeks ago and were surprised it was so close to completion and were commenting that they were going to have to add a traffic light or some other type of traffic management. Then we read that it was opening. I'll be staying there again next weekend so I hope it's not too bad.

They have installed a traffic light where the new road meets Buena Vista Drive. Once the new road opens there will be a formal intersection at that point, so there won't be a traffic nightmare.

Here is a photo I took of the road this morning. You can see that the road is ready. They have installed the lights, landscaping and even the purple signs. It looks very nicely landscaped. They have planted many purple flowers in the median near the intersection. Its not great but it was taken from a moving vehicle.

They built that pretty quick. If it were Jersey it would be another 2 years.

The '89 earthquake in San Francisco damaged the Bay Bridge. Estimated time of completion of new span and repairs? 2012.

I sure wish they would widen I-10 & 1-12 in Baton Rouge. Traffic is a beast on Friday evenings!

Strategic planning always is involved when I hit the road and have to go anywhere near BR. I don't know how you guys cope!

I only face it once a week and that is to go home. It takes about 30-45minutes to get from Acadian Thruway to Denham Springs on Friday evenings.

New Road to have WDW Arches

I was on the opposite side of the road this morning (where is comes out offiste on Hertzog Road and 545) and the WDW Arch is completed. The road is still closed off, but it only needs some paving and line painting and it will be done. I can't wait for it to open, it will make my travel time to WDW decrease!

Just to let everyone know, Disney is touting it as a new road for people coming down I-75...but if you use I-75 you know it comes no where close to Disney. You will have to merge onto the Florida Turnpike, then onto 429, then get off at Hartzog road in order to use this new entrance. Still, it will be faster than the old way of I-75 to the Turnpike to I-4! Be aware that 429 has a $1.00 toll just before the new exit for Disney, and if you don't get off at the Disney exit and keep going to the last exit (currently 192) there is another $1.00 toll.

DANG! 429 goes directly through our condo's main entrance (Windsor Palms) off Formosa Gardens Blvd behind the old Splendid China. At the 192 intersection, you can see the ToL and E:E.

use Windows Live Local and search for CS, do a bird's eye view and you can see the construction of the access rd from 429. Then start heading west clicking on the pictures and you can follow the construction all the way to where it connects with 429. You can see how clos it comes to AK and the Conservation station. Here's a link to Windows Live, I think it'll take you straight to CS.

While its nice that they're doing this it will be too far out of the way and probably more crowded than my favorite route to the world.
I'm a fan of I-75 to 429 then getting off at the CR 535 exit and taking it to either Reams Rd or on down to the entrance on Hotel Plaza Blvd.

Theres very light traffic on 535 that far up and I enjoy seeing the Contemporary and the the spires of Cinderella Castle peeking over the trees.

But for the vast majority of the people driving to the world it will work out fine.

You can see Cinderella Castle, the contemporary, and Spacesip earth from 429 when heading towards Western Way.

You should live in Louisiana. We are excited when something happens within 10 years.

LOL! The car has been available to the general public approx. 100 years and only in the last 10 did we get I-49 to connect FOR THE FIRST TIME north and south Louisiana via an interstate!!! Piney woods red necks and coona&&es got to meet for the first time and realized that they lived IN THE SAME STATE! Our DOT should take lessons from Florida on how to build a viable road quickly.

6 days until we are Orlando bound with 27 teens on a school bus for 930 miles of smiles:hammer: :sohappy:
