Western Way Open To WDW?

Does anyone have any experience using the new "Western Way" toll road to drive to Walt Disney World?

Specifically, if driving South on I-75 from Georgia, is this a better alternative to going into Orlando and taking I-4 down to Disney?

I read that this route is now open, but I cannot seem to find it on any online maps.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I used to take I-4 to get to WDW but now that we know about 417 we take that to WDW. Even though it is a toll read it does save some time going to there and it is better then the taffic on 417 late in the day.

Thanks to mhead for the written directions and to CP17 for the link. This is exactly what I wanted to know!! Everyone's assistance is much appreciated!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Approximately, where within Walt Disney World does this Western Way put you? I believe that I read that t is somewhere near Coronado Springs. Is this accurate? I have not seen any Disney property map indicating what road you eventually intersect.

:sohappy: Here is a map of the new
area. Like they say, sometimes
a picture is worth a thousand words. :o

Just wanted to let you know that we ended up taking Western Way in from I-95 last week. We did it just to see it, for the heck of it. It was about 7:30ish, and I swear we saw about 6 cars the whole way down. The view of the castle, space mtn, contemporary, etc is awesome, and really puts you in the mood!
There is even your own Disney Welocme Gate at that enterance, and you do go right pass the Animal Kingdom after enterance.
We stopped at the Florida Welcome center and they were able to give us a map that shows the new road because it wasn't shown on any other map.

My family and I just returned from a trip to WDW and we took the new toll road and then Western Way exit into WDW. This route was GREAT!! It was very easy and well marked. There was little to no traffic.

A major bonus was that we arrived about 9:30 pm and actually saw the Wishes fireworks from a distance on our drive in. It was a great way to begin the magic.

I HIGHLY recommend taking this route for anyone driving down I-75 to the Florida Turnpike.

Dang! :brick: :brick: I was just down at Disney last week and I meant to head over that way to see the progress and what the area looked like. With Disney planning to build new hotels and retail (a new mini-Downtown Disney?) I really want to see what this area is set up for.

What is outside of the Disney owned land on that side? Is it all open land or is it residential or something? I am hoping that Diz swaps up any remaining open land on that side so that they can avoid having it all become overdeveloped and hectic like the area on 192 and the Crossroads area have become.

This route certainly seems to be the one you'd want to take if you're coming from the north on I-75 and the Florida Turnpike. It's in my plans for the trip in 2 weeks.
It should particularly appeal to guests arriving for check in at Animal Kingdom Lodge, the All Star Value resorts, and Coronado Springs. And possibly the resorts in the Epcot area, and guests off-site along the Westgate corridor of Irlo Bronson (192 ).

Those checking into resorts in the Downtown Disney area and Fort Wilderness Campground, as well as Eastgate side of 192 or along International would most likely be better served to stay on the Turnpike to I-4.
