Western Way Open To WDW?

Does anyone have any experience using the new "Western Way" toll road to drive to Walt Disney World?

Specifically, if driving South on I-75 from Georgia, is this a better alternative to going into Orlando and taking I-4 down to Disney?

I read that this route is now open, but I cannot seem to find it on any online maps.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Is there any type of grocery store on the new road? I need to pick up basics like milk and bread and wondered if there's anything there.
No, but 192 is only one exit (maybe two?) past the Disney exit, and there is a Publix within 100 yards of the exit ramp on 192.

Exit ramp on western way for 192? It's not open yet! But from LBV drive you can hop onto Osceola Pkway (by the big mcdonalds) and take it Eastbound until you get to the Gaylord Palms. Turn right and there's a publix on the left, and a walgreens on the right. :)

Really? Wicked sorry. So the entrance ramp is open, but not the exit? I could've sworn. . . My bad.

In my defense, there really is a Publix near the entrance ramp. . . :lookaroun

I guess they opened it for me. I missed the Disney exit by accident and got off at 192 and came back onto Disney property by the back way to AK.

Ah, I think you're speaking of 429, rather than western way. Western way is the road that goes into disney property, and dead ends by coronado, 429 keeps going.

My bad! So Western Way is the East-West route and 429 is the North-South route that runs from the turnpike?

You got it! And I believe 429 is being expanded to reach all the way to both sides of I-4. There's quite a few massive on and off ramps being built lately. You can see them from Osceola Parkway or from the Wide World Of Sports.

Those ramps are part of the work being done at I-4 and 192. 429 ends at 192 now, the section from 192 to I-4 is under construction and will be the next exit past 417 going towards Tampa on I-4. It is actually about 1 mile past 417. Now why the didn't have 417 and 429 come together at I-4 is beyond me. If your going to build a beltway around Orlando shouldn't it connect? sorry for the rant

If you go all the way to HWY 192, won't that cost you an extra $1.00 or can you exit prior to the next toll booth? What about entering from HWY 192 and just going up to get off on the WDW exit, would you catch a toll going that way? I was thinking of using it as a short cut to go to the grocery store.

There is a $1.00 toll between Western Way and US 192 and you must pay it regardless of the direction you are going, even if it is just to the next exit.

More than the Castle

Western Way will be my route from now one when I drive down. It's pretty, there's very little traffic, and if you look carefully as you drive, you can see the castle, which you don't typically see when you drive the old way into the World.

If you look carefully, when you come over the long rise heading towards WDW, you can see, all at once, the Castle, Space Mountain, the Contemporary, SSE, the water tower at MGM, the Swan and Dolphin (I think), the Tree of Life, and I believe Expedition Everest. My children thought it was the coolest thing ever, and we pulled off the road so that they could pick out all of the different things. It's the only place I've ever seen something from all 4 parks at once. MUCH better on time and traffic, and highly recommended!!!

I'm driving down to WDW tomorrow from NJ, if we are coming south on I-95, will there be signs leading us to Western Way, or are they not connected? Thanks!

I think that going to Western Way from I-95 would take you much longer than just going down I-4. Western Way is a shortcut from the I-75/turnpike route. You would have to take I-4 to the turnpike to get on W. W., basically looping north and west of WDW.

If I am coming down 1-75 from Georgia and I am staying at an offsite hotel off of 192 very close to WDW, would the new 429 toll road stil be my best bet?:veryconfu

faster...not always. Better...definitly!

I just took this way two weeks ago from Middleburg (south west suburb of Jacksonville). It took exactly three hours. Going east to I-95 south, then I-4 takes 2:45....without traffic. We were going to hit I-4 in rush hour...which can take as long as 4 or 4 1/2 hours. We ran into traffic exactly once, at the toll booth on the turnpike. There were like 5 of us on 429 at 6:00.

I second the person that said the view was great...it is! I bet it would be really awesome to see the fireworks from there, one after the other.

We did come home I-4 to I-95...took 2:45 (sunday afternoon), but the traffic still got on my nerves!

What road(s) did you take getting there from jax? I live on the southside, and wouldn't mind avoiding I-4 next time...

Probably. But it may cost ya an extra $1.50 in tolls each way vs I-4. From the map on the first page of this thread it looks like there are two $1.00 toll boths between the Turnpike and 192.

You could get off at Western Way and cut through WDW to 192. That will save ya a buck. Either way it will be nicer scenery than driving to I-4 then coming back to WDW.

Your best bet coming from Jax is I-95, to I-4, then SR-417. It takes about the same amount of time as I-4 but there is less traffic. You pick it up before Sanford (exit 100, I think).

From the southside probably add another 30 minutes to that, and I'm not sure it would be worth it...We go south on Blanding (remember, from Middleburg) to 215 out to 301, then either 301 all the way to 326 (Ocala) to I-75, or 301 to 24 (Gainsville) to I-75. It takes us almost an hour to get to I-95 (St. Augustine), so that is part of the time difference for us.

Hope this helps.
