I just got engaged this year and I really want to get married at WDW also....it's so freaking expensive though...I have a big family, and I can't afford to have a big wedding there (well not if I want to go on a honeymoon)

I have a big family too if you're counting aunts and uncles and cousins... we've decided we'll probably just have a small bbq or party back in texas where all my family is.. so the disney wedding will just be my parents and sister and a few of my best friends and my fiancee's immediate family.

congrats on your engagement as well! :sohappy:

Congratulations! We just got married in Disney on September 30! Our wedding was at the Wedding Pavilion, our cocktail hour was on the Italy Isola and our reception was inside the China Pavilion. It was AMAZING!

The site you need is called Disneymooners. www.disneymooner.com to register. I found it to be an invaluable planning tool for my wedding. I got so many ideas from there and the girls there are all planning weddings in Disney and they post recaps as well to help you know what to look forward to and what to avoid.

Good luck! PM me if you have any questions :) I'm more than happy to help!

PS - don't be swayed by the large price tags. They will accomodate reasonable budgets. An average wedding in the U.S. is $25,000. Sure, lots of people scoff at that number but it's all in priorities and what you think is important. To us, we were paying for the memory. Life is too short to count in dollars and cents. I know Disney brides who spent $10,000 and I know girls who spent $60,000 on their Disney weddings. It's all in what you envision and what you have to work with. They are pretty reasonable with budgets and comparable to all major cities cost wise. The only thing I found substantially different in cost was the cake. But in the end that thing was AMAZING so it was well worth it ;)

For all its worth, my wife and I got married in the Magic Kingdom last year. Didn't cost us a penny. We did it as a guerrilla wedding at the wishing well next to the castle. It was just the two of us, my best friend performed the ceremony, and two additional witnesses. We just kind of walked up to the spot, did the ceremony, and were done before anybody official noticed. One of the Kodak photographers came by while we were doing it, and took some great pictures. I would say the entire ceremony was under ten minutes, and it was absolutely perfect. I know it's not the way most people want to do their wedding, but for us it was ideal and incredibly memorable.

Congrats........

I'm getting married at WDW on 12/16/06 (I'm the groom), as a matter of fact we leave for WDW in 8 hours to make our final plans.

I can post this here because I know my family and friends don't view this board and would not make the connection but we are having a "Surprise Wedding" We have about 35-40 people coming under the guise that they are coming for my Surprise 40th Birthday Party.

Its been unbelievable keeping it all a secret but it will be well worth it in the end. I have to get some sleep tonight before we leave, but I will post more details later after this coming trip and of course post the full details after we "recover"! from the wedding!

Wish us Good Luck and good weather that weekend! (not only in Orlando but we have been nervous about guest coming down from the northeast (snow!) that time of year.)

P.S. my fiancé feels the same as you, she didn't really want to plan a wedding (her mother passed away a few years ago and the thoughts of planning a wedding without her were a real bummer....but its been so much fun...even with the headaches of keeping it a surprise...and the Disney staff we have worked with have been great. Its been so easy because they have so much to work with. They really can do anything you can think of, as long as you have the $$$ to do it!

what a great idea!! could I really do that? :lookaroun
and would anyone really want to read it?

I think we would all love to hear about the wedding prep. I know I've been curious for a long time about how the wedding planning is handled at WDW. I think sharing your story here could be very helpful to others thinking about having a Disney wedding. You could keep us updated in this thread if you wanted. Congratulations! :D

yeah, I know I'd be interested if someone else documented their planning process.

I'm pretty close to figuring out the date.. I just have to talk to my boss monday about how much vacation I'll have by next may (we're thinkin we might do it in May 2007 if it's possible! omg, that's soooo close!)

once I get the OK from my boss (cause we are going to honeymoon somewhere else after the wedding and I'll probably need a week and a half off of work.. I've only been working there for about six months! ) then I'll call disney! woohooo!

we're not too sure of the wedding date as of yet.. but it will probably be may or october.

How fast are you driving cus Tampa is almost 8 hours from Atlanta, and I believe if I'm not mistaken that downtown Atlanta to Downtown Orlando was 8 hours and 28 mins last time I drove it, so are you speeding to get there in 6 hours?

People always think I'm crazy when I tell them to get married at Disney! They think it's going to be too expensive or it's childish, but I have to say it was the best thing my wife and I did!

We got married at the Wilderness Lodge since the Wedding Pavillion looked like any other wedding pavillion and not something 'Disney.' It turned out to be a great place to have our pictures taken before the ceremony too. After the ceremony (from 10 - 11am) we told the limo driver to take our guests wherever they wanted. In the meantime we changed into our shorts and hopped the bus to MK and rode Space Mountain. Later we met up with everyone again at the Rose and Crown for dinner and the EPCOT closing fireworks.

The second best part of a Disney wedding, it is so easy! They will send you the forms to pick out things like cake falvors, flowers, etc. We sent in some color samples and they created matching floral arrangements. They had a professional make-up artist / hair stylist come out to our hotel room the day before for a trial run to make sure everything was to my wife's liking and returned the next day for the real deal. There are several options to fit your budget too. We had the smaller 8 guest wedding with a regular limo and a towncar to pick us up at the airport to take us to city hall.

In total we spent about $4000-$5000 for the entire wedding package (ceremony, limo, photographer, cake, flowers, makeup, tuxedo, etc.), airfare for two, park tickets for everybody during their stay, a week long resort stay for us, and the reception dinner. Not bad at all!

Remember this and remeber it well!!! Your wedding is YOUR WEDDING, not anybody else's. Hopefully it weill only happen once in your lifetime and you need to make it as special for you and your mate and not worry about pleasing anybody else!

We wish you the best!!!!!!!!

Oh, one more bit of advice: the wedding palnner will give you a list of ministers who regularly perform ceremonies at WDW. We ended up choosing Rev. Jack Day, but I'm sure any of them would do a wonderful job. Take a look at what they do, bot so much what denomination they are.

Rev. Day was one of the nicest people I've met and really made our day special. He has a good website with some pictures of Disney weddings to get you excited too!
