For some reason people attach themselves to a particular brand and feel the need to find faults in others. I see the same thing going on in the cruise ship world. I hit the forums for some information on a future trip and all I see is people tearing apart cruise companies other than their "regular" brand. It's idiotic. I guess people just need to feel as though they have "the best.."
I agree! And to some extent, I can see some respectability in a certain degree of brand loyalty. But I do think there are those who sometimes take it to extremes. Reminds me of a story....
I was talking to a fellow Disney buff online one time (on another fansite) and that person had just come back from Knott's Berry Farm near Disneyland and had ridden the Log Ride. He was going on and on about how it was such an obvious ripoff of Splash Mountain and how Knott's should be ashamed of themselves for not coming up with an original idea of their own, how they had to steal an idea from Disney, etc....
When I pointed out that Knott's Berry Farm's log ride was actually built first (the Timber Mountain Log Ride was built in 1969, Splash Mt was built in 1989), he suddenly backslid. All the sudden, the similarities he'd previously mentioned, he was suddenly saying weren't all that similar after all.:lol:
Another case in point is Disney's California Adventure. It opened as a horrible park and hardcore Disney fans were saying, "It's great!" Now that it's widely known that DCA will be undergoing a major facelift, specifically as acknowledgment from Disney that it's a "disappointment", hardcore fans are all excited about the changes. Funny how when an attraction is wonderful to begin with, many of us are sad when we hear it is going to be changed (or closed), even if the changes appear to be for the better. And yet, I haven't heard much (if any) complaining from hardcore fans about the fact that DCA is changing. That, to me, is taking brand loyalty to extreme. It essentially sends a message to the company that you're saying, "Hey go as cheap as you want. Because as long as it's got your company's name on it, I'll still buy it just because of that!"
