So my brother called me yesterday afternoon, were outta town in North Carolina, neways he says Ashley (my niece) got beat up by these two girls! The two girls were african american and puerto rican. She says that they kept calling her ugly names in her history class and she finally turned around and told them to stop, and they did but they grabed her after class. The puerto rican girl grabbed her ponytail as she was walking and pulled her down to the sidewalk and they both started beating on her! Ashley is probably the sweetest girl you'll ever meet very easy going, great personality. But the girls gave her a black eye and she has whip lash. She says she blacked out when they started punching and kicking her. A sheriff's deputy came and pulled the two brats off of her and she came to and thought she was still in the middle of it and apparently socked the sheriff's deputy in the stomach, OOPS! The girls are on a 10 day suspension and then have to go in front of the school board stating why they shouldn't be sent to the school for troubled children. My brother and my niece are not allowed to go to the meeting with the school board and show the pictures of how banged and bruised up she is, my mother and brother are just livid because the teacher who teaches the american history told the sheriff's deputy that they had been bad mouthing her for months and she sent them to the dean's office a few times but they never got more than a detention, and that the day before they told her that her "beat down" was coming and the teacher ignored it and didn't take it seriously. Personally I think the teacher should be put on probation and investigated! But I am just sick over the whole thing because now she is scared to death but she went right on back to school because she new they weren't there, but I just hate that she had to even experience anything like that!

That is sooo scary. I hope they get the punishment that is due them. I also hope your niece feels better soon and won't be scared anymore.

Why?? Are they afraid of seeing the truth right in front of them??

And only suspension with that level of injury? I would have tossed those little snots right out on their rear. You shouldn't have second chances if you pull that kind of crap. Grrrr.....:brick::brick:

O I totally agree Jenny! I mean what is going on with these kids? Susie has a columbine esque threat @ Em's school & then we have children who are minding their own business & get hurt! I mean its like mom said does she have to have a broken bone for something worthwhile to take place? I was upset that they can't go and show the damages she sufferd!

I heard what happened! So sorry about that. Hopefully justice will be served, although unfortunately, in this day and age you really can't put a lot of trust in the law either. I hope something is done.

Krista - that is so horrible! They might not be able to go to the meeting, but there's nothing that says that they can't e-mail or snail-mail the pictures to each of the board members homes. I wouldn't send an angry letter, but a firmly stated request that these girls not be allowed back. Be polite, but assertive. :D

Yea Betty thats a good point. My brother has spoken to an atty whose a family friend & he said that Dave, my brother, MUST get these girls arrested that the resource officer made a mistake by not doing so at the moment he broke uq the fight. But the officer says he didnt bc they said they had the wrong girl. Sorry but that was a cop out!

They should also send a copy of the police report to each board member. There is absolutely no reason that they should be allowed back into that school.

Yeah the atty said that if he got them arrested that would ensure that, so I dunno we shall see... I mean I just talked to her a few minutes ago and she said more brusies came out today and everyone is saying to her that those girls thought they were beating another girl and she should just chill out about it, I told her DO NOT chill out about! So what if they had the wrong girl, they still should be punished! My brother really feels that the teacher let her down because she knew the girls were haressing her and sent one to the dean for doing so, the girl came back to the class and they started it again and that time the teacher did nothing.

Wait a minute.....they're beating on your niece and then claim they had the wrong girl??? Um, irrelevant (and an incredibly dumb thing to say btw).....it's still assault. THEY COMMITTED A CRIME. The school failed to do their job, this is a matter for the police now.
I agree with Fishy....send a strongly worded letter to each member of the school board - you might even want to consider writing to the editor of the local paper, especially if the school wants to ignore the problem.
I mean, we've just been dealing with insults here - which are frustrating, but Abby went to a guidance counselor about it and they seem to be taking it seriously. If it EVER got physical, I'd be all over that school like white on rice. You get ONE chance to protect my kids from physical abuse at the hands of a bully...and no second chances in my book.

I don't know about that school, but I know that some schools here won't do anything until an assault actually happens. It's so frustrating that the punk kids have more rights than their victims!

Or that the bullies might be good in sports and they don't want to lose them.....that happens too. :brick:

Yeah that's what I said to my brother that it is completly irrevelant if they had the wrong girl, it does seem like the school is trying to brush it under the rug but it WON'T happen my father made it perfectly clear to my brother that if the school tried it Grady Judd, our county sheriff who is also a family friend, would be involded. About 6 months ago there was a beating at another local high school very very similar to what my niece went through but the girl was hurt much worse and the school system was suppose to start this whole zero tolerance policy when it came to fighting but I'm starting to question if that is actually occuring now.

O and Jenny I am quite pleased that the school seems to be stepping up to the plate for Abby.
