Weird Rumor

Mr. T pitys the fool.

Oh, I know they will be replacing Fantasmic with the most epic battle of all time, nightly. MR. T vs. Chuck Norris vs. Bruce Campbell. Winner takes all.

Another Superstar TV thing would be cool. My mom was in Cheers once. Something with Pushing Daisies could be cool. Maybe you get woken up by the pie maker.

They may be building a Mr. T statue in DHS, but Blizzard Beach is being transformed into Chuck Norris' Roundhouse Wonderland.

Coming mid 2012. :lookaroun

I know this show's on NBC, so if it were ever an attraction, it would end up in Uni, but I think the Singing Bee would be a good fit. People are horrible singers on that show, but all that matters is that you sing the right words.

My sister and I yell at the TV when people mess up "easy" songs and get really into it...I think it would be a fun concept to bring to DHS.

Here are a few more detailed rumors from Screamscape:

2008 - New Show Additions - Some Rumor, Some Confirmed - (11/2/07) I guess I should have been more clear when I mentioned the new interactive singing show would use technology leftovers from the old Millionaire show. I didn’t mean that they would actually use the old seats and hot seat buttons, but rather reuse the basic technology concept and most likely incorporate some of the old hot seat button software.
As for the show itself, we’ve heard a few arguments for this show not being an official American Idol show, mainly due to the fact that Disney wants to avoid the Simon style negative comments from the judges to the singers and Disney is still stinging from the whole Millionaire problem where the show’s huge popularity suddenly vanished into thin air leaving them with a new attraction that had suddenly lost it’s audience. Of course one possible solution may be to just Disney-ize the show to create a Disney Idol style show, replacing the judge panel of Randy, Simon and Paula with some well known Disney counterparts using the same Vactor (video rendered actor) technology they’ve already put to use at Turtle Talk and the Monsters Comedy Club. Maybe a new Disney judge panel with the likes of Cruella, Zazu, and Stitch… or whoever is the new flavor of the month since they could easily reprogram it and use different characters as time goes on. Just an idea of mine and definitely not a rumor so don’t get too excited.
If the show does seem an American Idol connection however, we’ve heard about some bigger plans that could be put into play. It seems the winner of each of the daily shows, in addition to being awarded a prize would be invited back to take part in a daily FINAL performance show where an ultimate winner for the day would be selected. While this show could take place in the same theater, perhaps it could be expanded to something bigger in scale… perhaps becoming the pre-show entertainment for the huge nightly crowds waiting for Fantasmic. From here, it seems Disney would keep a record of the daily winners and 2, 3 or 4 times a year they may offer invite them all for a chance to come back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to play in a finalist showdown. The winner here would be given the ultimate American Idol fastpass… a trip to the front of the line for a real audition for the next American Idol show. So far this idea sounds fairly well thought out if all the rumors are true… but for now we’ll have to wait and see.

It's becoming more interesting as the rumors keep coming.

Now, Screamscape has made it clear that they won't use the actual seats from Millionaire, but technology like that.

I think it would be cool if there were Disney character judges. :)

The idea does sound like it could be a success And I know disney is trying to breathe new life into mgm and this is one way to do it. So I think it could work, I esp like the thing about the characters and how they could change even if it is just an assumption. They could probably even make a real show and broadcast "live" from Disney's Holleywood Studious in Fla, or some kind of special type thing they would show periodically on the disney channel and give us a reason to actually watch it. On another note, I sing alittle, and if I ever get over my stage fright I probably would do something like this, esp. considering as how they would "invite" me back if I did well. Thats like what, a free trip, so thats something Im all for. The only thing I wouldnt really do is go on AI though, there are other ways imo to get a record deal.

Now, Screamscape has made it clear that they won't use the actual seats from Millionaire, but technology like that.

Mouse Surplus has been selling most of the actual props from Millionaire for more than year anyway (I bought some of the hot buttons for X-mas gifts last year).

If it's taken very lightly, with, say, character judges, as you guys have mentioned, I think I'd be okay with it.

I still think something along the lines of "The Singing Bee," where people's talent isn't judged, just their knowledge of the words to songs (could do that type of show for just Disney songs or for anything they have the rights to), would be much more fun and accessible to everyone. T

he thing about Millionaire and Superstar Television was, anyone could win/be in the hot seat/ be on a TV show...with an AI ripoff, only people who can sing have any chance...part of the fun with the other two was not knowing whether you would be chosen (Superstar Television participants were chosen before the show, but you get the idea).

My main concern is that it seems like a short-sighted decision (the kind that I had hoped would be decreasing). DHS has been a park that has suffered more than the other parks from a lack of timelessness. While there are attractions that try to evoke the joy of movies and movie making in a timeless fashion (the Great Movie Ride, Fantasmic, Tower of Terror, Star Tours), there are too many attractions and areas tied to the current hottest item (as seen by removing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Play It). The former just need touch ups or updates in technology to keep the timeless story the attraction provides fresh for a new generation. With the latter, the enjoyment of the attraction is tied to the popularity of the tie in. Popularity wanes and the attraction is automatically seen as dated. (A whole other thread could be started on what attractions ride this line too closely)

This style of attraction does not help in that regard. Even if it is removed from any true connection to American Idol, the style of attraction would seem to still be tied to the popularity of programs like AI. Even a Singing Bee style attraction still suffers from a connection to a program whose popularity will wane.

And this doesn't even begin to discuss the complete disregard for theme with regard to the attraction... (put it in a new building/"recording studio" near Rock and Roller Coaster and then maybe we'll talk)

From LaughingPlace...

Something we've heard...
Disney Creative Entertainment have inked a deal with FremantleMedia North America to bring the popular American Idol concept to the US theme parks. The show itself is still in development but we understand that it will involved guests offering up demos in advance of their visit to Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and Disney's California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort. Guests will then be selected to take part in a live talent show inside the park. Winners are likely to be invited back for a final to select the Ultimate Disney Idol. This is likely to be the first of a new series of deals with outside partners to bring intellectual property inside the parks. The deal is not subject to the purview of Rupert Murdoch's Twentieth Century Fox Corp.

Oh my......this might actully be true.

I've got a very bad feeling about this....

Like someone else said, I feel like this idea is a bit too "riding the popularity wave", as in, using ideas for attractions that could fade. Do we know that Idol will be a popular show (or the concept as a whole, if the attraction isn't Idol specific) in 5 years? Even 3 years?

Ooo, ooo! I got it. In the traditional of crappy attractions based on reality TV comes Survivor: Discovery Island! Watch 9 Disney World guests try to survive for 20 weeks on the island with no food or water and just their wits to survive! Watch the hilarity ensue as they get so hungry they go Donner Party on each other! Vote the most annoying off each week! Coming soon to Disney's Hollywood Studios: Where Reality is No Fantasy!
