Weird CM rules

unless they've changed the rule, tattoos are not allowed and CANNOT be covered by makeup. you can cover them with clothing, which is why you will see cast members with longsleeves in the summertime.

if the rule has been changed, they have not notified the operating participants, yet.

the tattoo rule (and most other appearance rules) are to keep focus on the show and keep the cast member from becoming the show.

imagineer and other "artist" type roles are excluded from most dress code requirements, as are house of blues cast members.

A friend of mine from church worked at the Disney Store in Indy from the day it opened until about two months before it went to he11 - er, I mean, they sold it to Children's Palace. Anyway, I have never seen her point without using two fingers - and I predict she will till the day she dies :lol:

As for tattoos and piercings and hair, I just hope that Disney can still find enough people to fill CM roles that can meet their standards. Facial hair isn't too bad, but piercings and body art really distract from the story and bring in too much from the "real world". I heard that they used to require CMs with arm art to wear long sleeves to cover them up. I never heard the make-up method for hiding art - that just sounds rediculous.

I would think in the hot Florida sun even thick caked make up would not hot dark black tat ink when someone starts sweating-lol

Sorry, off topic. I just noticed the difference. Our local Disney Store has been cut in half and filled with backpacks and stuffed animals. One little rack of
t-shirts for adults and that is it. So much for my little getaway to Disney in between vacations.

They should ask you where you'd prefer to work, but trust me, it's doubtful you'll get the place you want right away. If you sign up for attractions you go where they say, at least in most cases. I was lucky to get the ride I wanted to work at (but that could also be because I had millions of Cast scouting cards from the other HM cast members who wanted me working there!!)

Continuing to be off topic in this thread, I'll be the first to welcome you to Indy, and to refer to you as a "Hoosier"! I'm not sure where the sales offices are in Indy, but I know where the bottling plant is in Speedway - across the street from the track (near my church). In fact, Coke uses their large field as parking lot for all the race tailgaters!

Gotta love the Disney Point. I've never worked there and I still use it. It's even immortalized in the outtakes section of the Animal Kingdom DVD. The host mentions how at Disney you don't point; you use a "petal" (whole hand).

CMs use a "Disney Point" which is with 2 fingers or an open hand to direct guests. Its a hard habit to break once youve left teh company.

In some cultures, the index finger is the equivilent of the middle finger. Thus, we use two fingers or the entire hand. I tend to do both interchangeably; I don't even think about it anymore (which is embarrassing at the mall).

Disney Point In The Workplace

I find the Disney Point to be a better way to point something out to a person. Where I work (county gov't), we have visitors that come in from all nationalities and doing a regular point is considering insulting and rude to some cultures. My co-workers sometime see me do the "disney point" and they ask, "What's that about?" I told them, "Go to Disney and find out!"

I think the Disney Point has even spread around a little as some people in other county gov't departments are using the Disney Point as well.

Huh? The Al-Queda battle cry is to make weird noises and wiggle your tongue around? I knew those "people" were animals, but a battle cry like this just sums it up :lol:

So, how true it this? Anyone else heard of this new rule yet - not that I'm completely doubting it, but it just seems nuts!

I think the facial hair thing is a little out of date. If a person has a very well kept gotee, they should be allowed to keep it. I don't see how that affects their job, but maybe I'm wrong. The Disney point is actually used by me at my work place...LOL. My co-workers just use a regular point, but not me. It is a little more curteous.

I think the rules we have are more Standards than rules. We are an incredibly unique company and if our Standards are not uphold we will cease to be Disney and just be disney.
