Weekly meetup forum

Hello all! :) A few of us have been discussing possibly setting up weekly WDW Magic meetups at WDW and I am wondering where to take this next. The idea is that we would basically just have a weekly meetup in one of the parks planned so that whoever happens to be there that week can get together with other WDW Magic users. It's cool to plan big meetups (such as the women's cruise in September), but not everyone can plan around these things. That's why I think it would be more fun to have a weekly meetup so that anyone could go! Kind of like the weekly DVC welcome home Wednesdays. Please let me know what you think!

Using Welcome Home Wednesdays as an example is a good idea, Tracey! If it was just a standard "this day, this time, this place" that everyone knew about, that would probably be helpful to people, they could work it into their plans if they wanted.

I participated in a WDWMagic meetup at Epcot's 30th anniversary last October 1. It was fun, but was more difficult to plan than you would imagine, especially considering that the vast majority of us were going to be at Epcot all day for the anniversary events.

Just need to pick a day, location, and time and try and let as many on the board as possible know. Really sociable locals could meet most of the board in a year or two with this plan. @vitani88 - why don't you decide on the details and let us know. I know from experience that if you take everyone's input it turns into a big mess. If you don't want to do decide on the details, pick someone else to do it. The big issue is going to be getting the word out to the larger magic audience. Really, really great idea.

One Little Spark...
Unless someone is going to manage the location each week (which could be a fun running thread), for users interested in a meet up, a static location weekly is probably the best (though boring for locals who show up all the time, hence why it may be interesting to rotate).

I'm gonna say...it should be rotated and a thread established where people can loosely choose where the next location should be (could just continue in this thread)...

I think meetup areas should be kid friendly (so...no bars unless they are adjacent to something else for the kids to do...)

I would think a common character breakfast (or lunch) would be a neat idea...though it would be hard to get into without ADRs and some serious advance group planning.

Other places would be the shows at EPCOT, meetups for Parades / Shows...

I dunno...so many options.

For me, I'd like to do a meetup at La Cava!

I think switching up the parks would be great fun! It may be a bit of a hassle at first, but wheres the sense of adventure in meeting at the same ol' boring place all the time? :p Although, I can't really say much for where exactly to meet up, it would all have to depend on my college classes, and paycheck to see if I can attend or not :p

So its really up to you guys!

But I do like the idea of QS,goes easy on the wallet ;D

I agree about the location predicament. What if we just had a set schedule for each week? There are four parks and four weeks in a month, so maybe a different park each week? Unless perhaps resorts or DTD would be better. It is much easier to get into restaurants without ADRs at the resorts.

Maybe we could have polls to vote for each week several weeks in advance for the people who would be there?

I do agree that character meals would be really difficult. What if someone books a last minute trip (like I've done in the past) and can't be added to an ADR? I also think meetups for parades would be difficult, saving spots and such.

La Cava might be doable since it's in such a large space and there are other things to do.

I agree. For the locals who are able to go on a more regular basis, it would be nice to switch it regularly. What do you think about polls or simple discussions to decide weeks in advance? Maybe we should have a FB group... We would need an entire forum to do weekly polls.

Obviously not everyone will be able to do it each week and there will be some that show up more frequently than others. I like the idea because the opportunity and option is there. It's easy to plan for and as long as someone shows each week it has the potential to gain momentum and could turn into something really great. I like the idea of a designated park for each week so people can decide which ones they'd want to go to. For example

1st week of every month MK
2nd week of every month HS
3rd week of every month Epcot
4th week of every month AK
And for the months that have a 5th week Downtown Disney (or a resort)
