Hello all! :) A few of us have been discussing possibly setting up weekly WDW Magic meetups at WDW and I am wondering where to take this next. The idea is that we would basically just have a weekly meetup in one of the parks planned so that whoever happens to be there that week can get together with other WDW Magic users. It's cool to plan big meetups (such as the women's cruise in September), but not everyone can plan around these things. That's why I think it would be more fun to have a weekly meetup so that anyone could go! Kind of like the weekly DVC welcome home Wednesdays. Please let me know what you think!

Obviously not everyone will be able to do it each week and there will be some that show up more frequently than others. I like the idea because the opportunity and option is there. It's easy to plan for and as long as someone shows each week it has the potential to gain momentum and could turn into something really great. I like the idea of a designated park for each week so people can decide which ones they'd want to go to. For example

1st week of every month MK
2nd week of every month HS
3rd week of every month Epcot
4th week of every month AK
And for the months that have a 5th week Downtown Disney (or a resort)

I agree, but some of the local folks who would be able to go more often want to switch it weekly. What do you think about the poll idea? Do you think we should just stick with one park per week?

I like both ideas. The poll is fun because its interactive and its always evolving.

The benefit in having a set week for each park would be that if people didnt have a chance to check the board or the poll would already know the location. For example if Epcot is my favorite park and I know that we would be meeting there the 3rd week of every month I can literally plan my entire year of meet ups.

I'm up for anything and will be cool with whatever is decided. I live in Ocala and we are down there 2-4 times a month so I'm flexible

Saturday for a late lunch...I think. That is, if we are focusing on QS restaurants for the location to meet.

That sounds great! I just came here to ask that! What time would be best? Most people have dinner plans, but I feel like there are things going on around noon too (at least for us). I think a late lunch, maybe 1 or 2, would be great!

I echo George's sentiment: these things work best when you just go all fascist about it. Best to just pick times, dates and places centrally, in advance, instead of trying each week by cumbersome committee. This way, people can plan well in advance too. Which, as WDW management understands, is deep down how we all want to turn our vacations into just as stresful and rigid a routine as our working lives!

You can combine it with a cupcake nomfest! Every week a different cupcake location! You can announce in advance for every week of the year the time and place where there will be a cupcake genocide.

'April 27th, 12:00, somewhere in Downtown Disney, theme: 37th anniversary of the opening of The Empress Lilly,
May 4th, 12:00, Backlot Express, theme: celebrating Star Wars Day,
May 11th, etc'

Sooner or later, eventually, I might stop by and say hello!

My thing is this, my vacation is planned out for the first part pretty much to a tee...

If there is a meetup, I'd be happy to say Hi. If there isn't, I'd just skip it. I think that was the original intent...

I will be right across the bay from vitani88 while she has an amazing wedding...yet, I doubt I will take time to see her. The kid and I will be too busy over at MK.

If we had a central place, or central time and place, to meet up, it would help...

Actually, I already think we need to be more fascist about it. Same location every week. Otherwise it will get complicated/cumbersome. Its easy if we know we're magicers are showing up at Club Cool every Wednesday at 2PM. In fact, permanent locations lends itself to a more than once a week type thing (increasing the odds of catching someone on a 3,4,or 5 day trip). Locals aren't going to show up because they find the location exciting, they see different parts of WDW all the time (I was a local at two different times in my life). They're showing up for the excitement of meeting all the extremely cool, hip, beautiful Disney fans who post on this board from around the globe. I won't throw a hissy fit if we do go with rotating locations and I'll still do my best to attend...

Not sure if I'm cool, hip, or beautiful, but this pretty much what I was thinking. Alternating a park per week works as well. I don't really care. You guys make the plans and I'll (maybe) be there.

I have to agree with @George. A nice, consistent, fascist location & time is not only easier to publicize, it's going to be the easiest way to maximize participation, as all anyone on WDWMagic has to remember is "Wednesdays at 2 at Club Cool". Yes, it may get boring for locals, but as George the Omniscient mentioned, the locals aren't gathering in a particular spot at a particular time to enjoy the ambience of the particular location--they're going to meet their "crazy Internet friends" (which is what my husband calls all of you guys)

Now, you're not going to actually want to pick Wednesdays at 2, because that'll interfere with Welcome Home Wednesdays, and we have a lot of DVC members here! Club Cool does seem like a good location, though. Or even whatever they call the hallway outside the back exit of Club Cool. Indoors is definitely better than outdoors. World Showcase Plaza seemed like a good central location for last October's WDWMagic meet, but it is unshaded and the sun was beating down that day, causing us to mostly stand around squinting at each other.

I think Friday, Saturday or Sunday would be a good bet, at around 11am or maybe 4pm?

Of course I like the cupcake idea! ;) Maybe we could do cupcakes one day per month?

Maybe I should start a poll to see what the majority would prefer - a set park but ability to vote on location, alternating set parks with a set location that changes each week but isn't voted on, or one set park and location that never changes. Can we all agree that Saturdays at 1 or 2pm would be a good time? 11am or 4pm were also times that were mentioned. Would one of those be better? Lastly, where should this thread go? Trips planning, trip clubs, or does it need its own section? Maybe within trip planning?

I usually work on Saturdays until three but that might change soon. I'm looking for a new job.
