No, Eisner and Frank Wells (mostly Frank Wells) did. Eisner put people that knew what the hell they were doing in the right places, and Disney prospered, with Eisner taking all of the credit. Then Frank Wells, died, and all of a sudden everybody had to put up with Eisner himself. Needless to say that led to a great talent exodus that is becoming legendary in Hollywood. Then, he brought out his only trick, which is exploit every asset of the company for all it is worth, and he put people in charge that were professionals at exploitation.

>>>If all of these people disagreed with him, he certainly wouldn't get his way.<<<

When you put "Yes" men in control, disagreements generally aren't a problem.

You're barking up the wrong tree.

Please stop taking personal shots at people. It's one thing to debate. Quite another to insult.

Wow, you're standards are low, even for a thrill park. SFoG is one crappy park, I would never give that park the time of day again. Very Boring... of course I've got BGW and PKD close by. Still I think IOA is worth a trip to Orlando even if the Dis parks weren't there. I can't say that for US though.

WWF bought WCW, weird things do happen. Even Sega started making games for Nintendo. Disney may want to quietly buy Universal to keep financial support to the park and still let them operate on their own. Competition is a good thing no matter who you are. They would never run it under the Disney name, but it would be an... interesting business move with some logical resoning to it. When you actually own the competition, then it's all an illusion to the customer who may strongly choose sides, but only one company gains the profits, if any are to be made. Plus, with the right backing, Universal Orlando is very close to getting their park formulas right.

Just a thought on why Disney could be interested, just not on a public knowledge level.

As I've said before, the big difference to me was Guest treatment and cleaness, and even those things I only started noticing after I had enough English AND became a CM.
I don't believe I'll EVER go to Orlando and not go to WDW and UO. Maybe I'll skip Busch or Sea World, but Disney has stuff that Universal doesn't have, and the same way around. Disney is more family, Universal is more thrilling. Is it a "fight"? I don't think so, there'll always be an audience for both.

Bottom line, if UO wants to RAISE their standards, why is that a bad thing? Let them! Maybe Disney will realize they've been letting little mistakes pile up into huge messes (maintenance, bad CM hiring) and do something about it.

Perhaps a fairer way to judge if something is Smelling in the State of Denmark, would be to list the positives, negatives and acheivements of the last 5 years for each company. Im sure you will find theres a bit of truth to most of the feeling subscribed to here. After all no one can get it right all the time....... well except me of course.

After reading through this entire thread in one sitting, all I have to say on the subject is “Good for Universal.” While I am first and foremost a Disney fan, I don’t see what harm could ever come from Universal’s attempt to be the best park they can be. It’s doubtful that anything they do will cause WDW to completely shut down, so what do any of us loose by Universal’s effort. Let’s say that Universal does become the number one resort (using whatever standards you choose), then that just means even more and better entertainment for all of us in the long run. And plus, as innovative as Disney has been in the past, imagine what they might come up with if they were suddenly thrust into the number two position and had to fight to regain superiority. I, for one, might not mind seeing what could come from that.
<p>
And even if Universal never overtakes Disney, we’re (hopefully) still left with two resorts that pay even more attention to cleanliness, creativity, and guests services. I say competition is good. Viva la competition!!!

Universal Orlando has gotten so disparate that the Florida Lottery is now offering a "scratch off" ticket. How low can they go? Time will tell and time is not on their side.

Universal Orlando hasn't gotten desperate... the Florida Lottery did. Universal isn't paying 1 cent for their name on the game, it is the other way around. And if this is a bash on their 2 yrs for the price of 1 AP, guess again.. Disney is offered 16 months for the price of 1. Both parks want as many people as they can get.. Disney is just being quiet about it

if this is strictly a Disney site, then why are there Universal, Sea World, and "Other Attractions" forums?

Hi mktiggerman! I suppose I was less than clear. To put it more clearly, Universal Orlando is part of a large and disparate (not desperate) company. Vivendi Universal is made up of a large number of different (and in my opinion incompatible) companies. I used the example of the Florida Lottery ticket because 2 years ago (best I remember) the Florida Lottery proposed a similar idea to Universal Orlando and the folks at Vivendi rejected the package. I was just attempting to point out the shift in thinking that has occurred recently. I think Universal Orlando will get better once it gets out from under Vivendi (sooner the better). It will take some time but again, time is not on their side ride now. Hope this clears things up.

I was just at universal and I saw a huge amount of land and i asked an employee what it was going to be and he said either a new theme park, a water park, or a new hotel. The land was very close to the new Royal Pacific hotel at universal.

That shift should have happened a long time ago. Free advertisement? Vivendi was stupid (then again, it should not surprise me, it is Vivendi after all) to reject that package, if what you said is true (these campaigns have been going on for years).

BTW, Bob Gault has confirmed that attendance is up at Universal Orlando. Looks like Disney will have to come up with a new excuse for their continued downward trend (though admittedly not as down as last fall, but still).

>>>Echoing the sentiments of many in the tourism industry, Universal Orlando President Bob Gault said he thinks Orlando is having a good summer because there's pent-up demand for family travel, a demand that grows more powerful daily and one that Central Florida is uniquely able to meet.

"Our June performance [for theme parks] is ahead of last year, and our hotels are virtually sold out for the summer," he said.<<<

This has gotten SO boring! What I meant in an earlier post was that I would never make an 11 hour trek just to ride some roller coaster....I go the distance for the Disney magic - I can do a coaster park right close to home

pierce343, it seems that 99% of your posts are saying "HULK is better than RnR". Please remember that you are on a primarily DISNEY FORUM here. Your continually comments of this nature are not going to be welcomend here by the majority of the members. You have made your opinion, and that is all it is, YOUR OPINION, not FACT, and I think it is unneccesary to keep repeating it in every post. Thank you.

Hulk, Its good but i like RnR better. The layout on Hulk is good, but Hulk is pretty rough now for some reason. However RnR makes a better thrill cause of the theming u sit in a lemo, the take/off is faster, the road sighns make up of the ride, and it plays music. Not to mention that its themed as a boulevard were ur loading. Everyone has their own opinions so lets not jump down anyones throat for them liking hulk better, its just what the person likes, u cant force them to like something that they like better. :king:

One advantage Disney has over Universal that will be extremely difficult for Universal to overcome is brand name. The first images that come to mind for me:

"Disney" - Kids, High Quality, Entertainment, Characters, Parks, Movies, Clean, Fun.

"Universal Studios" - Movies, Rides, Fun, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?.

Disney's image has been carefully crafted over decades and is pervasive. Universal has a loooooong way to go to come close to matching it.

As it stands now, what Universal is most known for (movies and rides) is not enough to carry it as a destination on its own. I can see Universal movies anywhere, and if I want rides, I'm 30 minutes away from Six Flags Great America (10, count 'em 10, coasters). Disney, on the other hand, makes me feel like a kid again, but entertains me as an adult. It's the atmosphere, the image, the detail. It's the entire package.
