Well, we broke it to the kids tonight that they're taking a Disney Cruise! They weren't happy at first b/c all I said in the letter is that "something came up and we can only stay at WDW for 3 nights. My son (14.5) sat on the couch and looked stunned. My daughter (15.8) got mad and wouldn't come sit on the couch for the next portion of the news. We explained they would find out why we couldn't stay if they sat down...

Here they are reading the list of rules for the cruise (sorry they're blurry):

My son figured it out fairly early:

My daughter took a little longer:

Son was laughing and very happy, daughter was happy and crying:

She cried for about 5 minutes and my wife and son kept telling me I broke her since she wouldn't quit. Unfortunately, I was trying to be discreet with the video and picture taking (hence the blurry pictures) so the video never started. It was a classic, and I'm sorry I missed it.

BTW, totally OT, but what's that in your avatar?? My hubby is a huuuuge aviation nut. ;)

It's a Bushby Mustang 2. They are 2-place (side-by-side) experimental (homebuilt) planes and are similar to the Van's RV-6. I bought it in 2004 w/about 125 hrs on it. It had 150hp and would cruise at about 175/180 mph if i ran it at 75%. I pulled the power back and cruised at 155mph and burned about 8 gallons/hr. Flew it from VA - CA - VA in 2005 in 39 hrs flying time. Kept it until 2008 and decided to buy a "family" plane since I married into a ready-made family. It was a blast to fly. If y'all are ever in VA, let me know and I'll give him a ride in what I've got now. Pretty cool seeing this area from 1000' or so. Oh before folks think planes are super expensive, this cost less than a new mildly optioned F-150...

Here's a pic of me landing after taking my niece up.

Here's a picture at Kill Devil Hills, NC....where it all started in 1903.

I would've voted to keep it a surprise, but it's hard to argue with those pictures. :)

I was on the fence up until I figured out a cool way to do it. They we're happy to find out they were only staying at WDW for 3 nights. My daughter actually got mad, so mad she wouldn't obey. Nothing like an emotional roller-coaster to make it worthwhile to surprise early (sorta like having a huge lead over UNC-CH, letting them come back and take the lead, then beat them by 1...of course a 30 point blowout is nice too :D). My son and I have been doing some serious planning and we've got a few things planned together...which may/may not have happened if they found out the day of!

Looking forward to it, and I'm planning on the pictures being better (taking my waterproof point and shoot and my DSLR...which is weather resistant too).
