@Scar, Jungle Cruise? Really? Is it just the script changes or a complete overhaul?

@EPCOTPluto, I see... But they still shouldn't be messing with our newly painted queue! There's fans out there like us who actually care.

They need to stop sending guests in that new hallway of doom. It was a bad idea in the first place...
Rode SM on the night of the 22nd and sadly part of the queue is already being trashed by guests. I entered the Alpha tunnel in the new stuffy room that has been added to the queue and could tell the paint on the wall is new and sticky. Other guests must have noticed because there were large chunks of paint missing all through that hall. Guests have been peeling it out of boredom and leaving all on the floor. Wish I had a pic, but I dont ever bring a camera.

This is not that big of a deal, but I thought is was worth reporting since we are all expecting a clean and fresh mountain. The only solution I see to the problem in that room is to paint over the blue paint with white paint.
Ugh....It's going to look horrible in a year...again.:brick:

More refurb, please!

They used to use that hallway way back when if the ride was especially busy. What they need to do is start prosecuting people for tearing stuff up.

Anyway, Kevin Yee has an excellent article today over at mice age. An example of what he is capable when he isn't in "Al Lutz" mode of needling WDW.

The article also contains some cool information not covered even here.

Now I like this refurb even better. :)

Maybe, but even so it's idiotic to use it full time. They only had a whole dock full of switchbacks to use.
:hammer:

If there is anyone who understands the purpose of the SM switchbacks I'd like to know.

I really thought they would be scaled back. I guess they are expecting some big crowds in the summer.

Yep, a great and very thorough review. But with one exception - the music, which must not be his thing as he just glossed over it.

The article also contains some cool information not covered even here.

Hmmmmm...I wonder what that possibly could be? :lookaroun :hurl:

Would you care to divulge? :)

What Yee talks about is definitely interesting. He mentions Space Mountain's ties to 2001: A Space Odyssey. The launch and re-entry tunnels are meant to be wormholes, and the space station we see on the lifthill (and Disneyland sees in the loading area) is reminiscent of a Space Station in the movie.

You and mousedad should post less but more coherently.

Just assumed you were referring to the 2001 references, which I thought was obvious and didn't need to be explicitly pointed out.

Oh, I thought it would be news.

That's interesting, though.:lookaroun:lol:

So I will admit I was able to appreciate the refurb a little bit more after reading that article. When I rode during Soft Opening we somehow managed to get a rider switch by appealing to the CM we had dinner reservations at 5:00 when the soft opening ended at 6 and it was currently 4:30 with a wait time of 45 minutes (we legitimately had reservations). Because of this we skipped through pretty much the entire queue, got sent to Omega side and walked right on. I think in the future I'll wait through the queue to check these things out closer.

I think the ride is great....kept the original feel to the ride without jarring my neck on every turn. I'm sure the seats are comfortable too!

Queue area is good, still feels claustrophobic in the tunnel, some decent AC needed! There's still some touching up to do I think, there's grafitti in the same place as I saw last year (I remembered thinking that it was really un-disney) and there's a few bits of flooring that still have construction dirt on them, but overall it is much better than previous. The games are pretty cool, although Fast-pass riders miss out on the games.
Into the 'Alpha' and 'Omega' areas, they're pretty identical, except the graphics on the ceiling, but they are superb.

Ride, as I said is good, seems to be smoother, with less clackety noises of the track, but you still get that original SM feel. Agree with most about the photo, flash is too bright and its in the wrong place to capture a ride shot. I reckon if they had a 'Smile for the your space passport photo' or something just before it, you could get some good pose shots. The whole thing is definitely a lot darker and unless you're in the very front, you can hardly see the track. Awesome! Launch and re-entry are crap though.

Post-show area is much updated, I thought it was excellent. Look forward to seeing how the new green screen area works. I was disappointed there wasn't more SM merchandise in the gift shop, wanted to get something!

Overall, its pretty darn good, and I'm glad its not too extreme like DLP or EE. Not too much changed with the ride excpet bringing it up to date.

Still a classic for the whole family.

But that's the thing...the RIDE isn't up to date. Still stuck in the 70's.:( The Queue is new, though.

And...what is the difference in the A and O queues?

Finally rode on Jan 5...for anyone that hasnt ridden yet:

The queue area is reconfigured with new railings, floor markers and enclosed ceiling. It looks good, but I really miss looking up and seeing the green stripes of the cars moving around on the tracks. The load dock has gates now, and the cars no longer have the red nose cones.

The blue light tunnel has different sound, and there is a camera placed at the end to shoot the ride photo...wrong place if you ask me. The ride really hasnt gotten started yet!

The main incline is the same. Once the ride starts at the top you can't see anything..the ride is very very dark now. You cant see the track as before and there seem to be less stars lighting the track. The ride does seem smoother...whether any work was done to the tracks I have no idea. But man is it dark. I used to like to be able to make out the track and get an idea of where you were in elevation..can't do it anymore.
It is really dark. You cant hardly see anything.

The unload area has the ride photo monitors on the wall...they superimpose your image into a cartoon like rocket car...lind of cheesy.

If you ride the TTA (old wedway), you can not see ANY of the ride. I mean nothing. It is so dark you cant see your hand in front of your face.
Kind of a let down. You used to be able to see the queue area etc and the cars up on the track...no longer can now. It is 100% pitch black.

The Starport Seventy Five theme used throughout the ride is an obvious pitch toward the year the ride was built (1975). Its a cute touch.

Overall the upgrades are ok...were some necessary? Standing in line being able to see the cars was so cool and led a air of forboding..such is progress I suppose.

Enjoy if you go...
