I am proud to announce that my wife and I are expecting our first child this June. We already know that he is a boy and we are already planning our first WDW vacation with him.

My thoughts are this:
We want to go to WDW and bring him along at about 6 months. Why 6 months? Well, for one we need our WDW fix! Two, we want to go for a full week long vacation in March and we figured that we should go in December with him to see how he reacts and behaves. The trip in December will be for about three or four days. Are we crazy for thinking about this?

The trip in March for a week would also be with our parents so that they can watch the little one while we play!

What do you all think?

No, you are not crazy! The weather will be great in December, so you won't have to worry about him getting too hot. Honestly, I think it is alot easier to take them before they can crawl or walk! It gets alot harder when they are wanting out of their stroller...lol.

You'd be surprised how many attractions you can take him on...pretty much anything that does not have a height requirement.

And the baby care centers in the parks are amazing! They have everything you need for diaper changes, feeding, nursing.....they are great.

At that age, I'd take your regular stroller...he should have no problem napping in it. Just keep him on his regular schedule for sleeping and eating, and you should have no problems!

Go, and have a great time! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

I would like to start by pointing out that I do not have children but my parents and other family members have brought babies and children of various ages on trips.

I believe this is important: Be sure you are there to have fun, not to "get your money's worth". A young child usually does best early in the day. Don't be afraid to spend a few hours in a park then leave for a few more. We all see waaayyyy too many parents dragging a crying child around because they are hot, tired, and unhappy. When the child is restless, leave the park and return later. Don't think you have to get a full day of rides and shows on a full day worth of ticket.

Both of mine were around that age when they went for the first time. They both did great. It was July on both trips too. Talk about hot. I love the baby centers too. I highly recommend a character meal. You'll be amazed at how he will react to them. My dd loved Eeyore and was in her glory when we ate at Crystal Palace. She didn't want to let go!

Have a great time and Congrats on the birth of your little man!

I take that this is your first child. Your life is about to be rocked.:hammer:
If it were me, I would wait to see how you & your wife adjust to sleepless nights, crying, diapers & runny noses at home before planning a trip away from home.

I am not saying don't go. Just see how the first 3 months go before deciding on the trip.

I took my dd when she was 6 month and her older brother was 18 months on the same trip... I am sure the posts here, had I asked, would be NO!
However that trip was one of our more peaceful trips. We stayed on our babies schedual and went with the flow. Since you already know the parks you won't feel like you "missed" anything.
Congrats on the new Baby!

We went when my older son was 4 months old and my daughter was 4. We also went when my daughter was 6, my older son was 2 and my youngest was 10 months old. Honestly, these were great trips. My son at 4 months was able to experience a lot of rides, especailly in MK and LOVED Festival of the Lion King and the Tiki Room especially. At 10 months old, my youngest had a great time too! We just wet with the flow, left when anyone got cranky and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

I totally agree. Disney is more than accomadating for families with infants and smaller children. I say go for it. Great time to go also, this is when we usually go.

We went with our 6 week old...

it can be a lot of work...we brought our own stroller and getting on and off the bus was a hassle at times...and frequent visits to the nursing center... but it is definitely doable.

He will be one years old on our next trip and we are looking forward to it...

Go and have a great time! Baby can sleep in the stroller with no problem. We did it many times and still got to enjoy all the attractions, etc.

We took our daughter to Disneyworld for her first Christmas when she was just 9 months old and travelled all the way from Ireland. The weather in December is great for a small baby. It's great at that age that they can just nap in their stroller. We had no problem eating out at night either as she just slept in her stroller. Take loads of photos and video as our daughter who is now a teenager loves to look back on her first visit to Disney.

Congrats! Don't ever let someone tell you that a child is too young to go to WDW. We took our son when he was 10 weeks, 3 months, 9 months, 13 months, 21 months, 2 years old (3x), and now that he's three years old he's been once and we're going back in a couple of days. He considers Mickey a friend, loves seeing the characters, and goes on all the rides without fears including HM and PotC (which are his favorites). Our daughter just turned one and has been twice at 2 months and six months and seems to be on the same path. Make sure you take it slow and let him take naps and breaks, but my opinion is that no ride is too scary because at that age, a child doesn't know what scary is, just how other people react around him. We tell our kids "look at the silly ghosts" or "look at the silly pirates" etc, and they learned to not be afraid. Also at that age all of the sounds, colors, shapes and experiences are fantastic to help stimulate a developing mind. Make sure you take advantage of the baby care stations in each park and have a great trip!

Great timing of this topic!

My wife and I just had a baby on the 14th of April and we are planning on going to WDW the first week of October. I have been countless times and feel like I know the parks in and out but I was still worried about how it would go with the little boy at 6 months old.

I think my confidence is further cemented that it is definitely a good idea.

Great topic and great timing.
