I wasn't sure where to post this so I put it here in hopes are a fast answer. Feel free to move though...sorry. Anyways...I recieved a letter in the mail today about The WDW Travel Co Websites and Class Action Settlement. Basically if you purchased a vacation package between June 13, 1999 and December 31, 2003 you are involved. Did anyone else recieve one? Can anyone break it down for me?

I have trouble remembering what I read but what I got from it was that when we bought packages Disney included and charged us for vacation protection. I guess whoever started the lawsuit said that the protection didn't work or something like that. I have the op to join but I'm not sure. I can choose 30% off WDW or DL hotel and like a free DVD or subscription to Blast. I wouldn't mind the 30%. What would y'all do? Would you join in the lawsuit?

The lawsuit was brought on by a guy who is suing Disney because, according to him, While buying a vacation package online, the websites did not make it clear enough that the vacation protection plan was an option and he thought it was necessary. So he bought the insurance with his package thimking he had to.

So what it comes down to, is someone didn't want to spend the extra $75 for the insurance, didn't read the links that explain the insurance and therefor, did not find out that the insurance was optional. This is of course all Disney's fault because the information was not flashin in red on the screen to get this dope's attention. So it's all about this guy bveing to lazy to read about what exactly he was purchasing, and now Disney has to pay big for it.

Sorry to sound bitter, but I bought Vacation Packages on line a few times and if I don't know exactly what it is that my money is going to, I dont buy it. All the info was there for me to read about the Vacation Insurance I even think there is a link that says "want to know more about the insurance, click here".

So if it was there for me to read the last 3 years, it was there for him to. I hate it when being lazy pays off.

Thank you. I think I remember actually opting for the protection now so there's no need for me to join in. Mods you can close this if you want cause it's already a thread. Thanks again!

Now that I understand more about it, I don't think I'll be "cashing" in on anything. I willingly and purposly bought the insurance and I'm actually somewhat annoyed that somebody would even sue over it.[/QUOTE]

Funny thing is, in the second page of the letter, it says that the option to not buy the insurance is onthe web sites and you could click on a hyperlink to exclude the option.

I noticed that as well. So basically the lawsuit is over this travelers own failure to click and read. Ok...I'll be throwing this away now.

I just got this in the mail today, too. It looked like another frivolous lawsuit to me. I don't really recall how long trip insurance has been offered, and if it is different on the site now or not. I know it is something my husband and I discuss every year--to buy or not to buy, so it must be pretty obvious on the site. I know I've bought on more than one occasion since 1999. :D

Insurance

I agree that someone should read all check boxes on the internet before paying for an item/vacation. However, I have called reservations several times and the price they quote includes this insurance and they do not indicate that it does until you start questioning the breakdown of the price. I do feel that this is misleading.

Absurd lawsuit, you bet. I would be willing to bet good money that the person did know they were buying the insurance, took the vacation and then tried to get that money back. And people wonder why everything costs so much!

The lawsuit is based on the internet and the online sites where you can book your vacation.

Personally, I am always going to ask for the breakdown in price of any package I buy. It may be misleading in a way, but if I don't ask where my money is going, is it Disney's fault?

Do you fell it is misleading enough to have the company pay out to hundreds of thousands of people? Don't be surprised to see stuff at concession stands go up a buck or so.

I just read mine today, just returned from WDW. This is just one of those protect me from myself lawsuits. Some people need to grow up and read ALL of the information offered. I have never had a problem with finding info on the Disney travel sites. Not only is the information on the site, but when Disney sends you your initial paperwork; resort, package, etc., the insurance shows up on that. If you don't know what it is or think you didn't order it, CALL or email Disney. What ever happened to common sense? :hammer:

My paper is going back tomorrow so I can get out of this. Maybe I'll write in big red letters "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" :brick:

Aw, C'mon, you mean you dont want to be a sleazy dirtbag like this guy?

Now what if the lawsuit was seeking Clay Aiken instead of Money?

Theres a moral dilemma for you.

Totally agree with you. I got three of the letters today, think it's because we've gone on three trips w/in the timeframe that the lawsuit covers. Gonna send them all back and write what you suggested on them.
