Quite correct.

It still never seems to stop people from thinking that they will lay out the development plans for WDW spanning the next 20 years and the inevitable disappointment of those same people when all they do it talk about Disney Springs.

Which… Actually wasn't that bad. It's slowly getting better. And the boathouse? Amazing atmosphere. Beautiful L boats. The food looks good if somebody else is paying…

So is everyone swinging over to Disney after they get their free ride on the Ferris wheel?
I would like to hear about Hollywood Studios, and how the Animal Kingdom expansion is going. I'm not familiar with these press releases, so I don't know what to expect. A new country coming to Epcot would be great!

Do not expect much that you wouldn't have already gleaned from a quick perusal of the News and Rumors section.

This forum is usually several months ahead of any public announcement. I can count the number of times we've been caught off guard by something on one hand (although they all have been within the past 5 years).

The only things that jump out at me are Avatar and the Peter Pan queue, and the latter we had heard about on here, we just assumed it was dead.

I'm not sure what people are expecting. This was never presented as a venue where announcements would be made (and it really never has been). It's a marketing event designed to sell room nights. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the closest we ever got to an announcement at one of these was the #MonstrousSummer 24-hour event two (three?) years ago.

"Media Event" is being used quite loosely here... local bloggers and other digital outlets will outnumber traditional media 20 to 1, maybe more.
I've been to just one before and I have to say I disagree with that assessment. The vast majority of that group was traditional broadcast radio, some local and some from out of town (and quite a few Spanish-only).

And, not to get too "tin foil hat" or anything, but lately they've been doing these inside of Nielsen ratings periods. It wouldn't surprise me if they were using this as a way to cut down on out-of-town TV folks using the invitation for a free getaway.
Is TV ever a big participant here? I know they're included but I always thought it was more digital and radio platforms.

Did they announce the MK parade at one of these events? If so, it's possible something similar could be announced (new nighttime show at MK or Epcot).
I don't know about a media event but, FOF was announced on the Parks Blog at the end of April 2013.

Rickey from stated in his podcast released yesterday that he will be attending a WDW press event this week. I also looked back and saw there was a media event held at WDW on April 30 2014. So with it being the same week of the year there very well could be a presser.
Did he talk about all the free booze he'll get just to post some photos on Facebook?
